CVS Employee Wellness Screening: Fair or Foul?
Starting May 1st, reports the Boston Herald, CVS Caremark Corps will require all employees on its health insurance plan to submit to regular wellness screenings. Should they opt out of the screening, employees are subject to a fine of $50 per month, or $600 per year.
CVS' policy is just the latest in a series of increasinglly aggressive and controversial attempts by companies to reign in their health care costs. CVS aims to "incent our colleagues to improve their health care and manage health costs," but the move is seen by some as an invasive and punitive policy that could lead to discrimination against unhealthy or disabled workers.
Personal Stories
Von Hottie On Physique 57, Pre-Natal Yoga, and Her Trainer's Girlfriend
Yesterday was an epic fitness day, in three parts. Get cozy, it's a big story...
I took a morning Physique 57 class with a lady friend. I've always been curious about just what kind of workout Kelly Ripa is doing! It was a pretty intense toning workout, lots of jiggling, squatting, and thrusting of things while on your tippy toes. I was in an intermediate class, so I felt like an impostor floppy fish floundering in a sea of lithe Lululemon dolphins.

How Choosing a Pedometer Gave Me an Existential Crisis
We all know that I'm a woman who believes in the transformative power of accessories.Would I have ever survived a three-hour spin class without my tutu? Nope! Would I have ever learned to climb the aerial silks without my butt sequins? Never! Would I even consider lifting big weights without the presence of my trainer, Buffin*? Heaven forbid! So, when I started wondering how I would count my daily 10,000 steps for the True North challenge, I suddenly felt like my choice of tracking device could be a defining moment in my life. Which activity tracker would best convey, "You are so badass, you can walk for miles while wearing hot pink lipstick, and success, my friend, will be yours forever?" I wanted it all - a device that would count my steps, boost my morale, cuddle with me at night, and match my outfit.

Social Workout-ers Are So Responsible And Yet So Daring
Success comes from the regular practice of good habits. Recently, Social Workout users wanted to trapeze occasionally, correspond the old-fashioned way, and make time for a classic constitutional. Such admirable aspirations!

"Your body knows how to do it, you just have to build the strength."
First official aerial silks class today and I didn't officially suck! I mean, I kind of sucked, but I didn't suck as much as I thought I would. I took my first class at Helium Aerial Dance with Heather Hammond. Sass was supposed to come with me, but she had to catch a bus. I was such a Grown Ass Woman - I went all by myself and I didn't throw up and I didn't cry.
Place:
Hype Gym

Pity party of one still made it to Ride the Zone
In the hierarchy of my female friendships, Sass is my mistress but we both have pre-existing long-term relationships with our "wives." Went for a fun, gosspy lunch with my wife yesterday, only she breaks the news that she and her husband are moving back to San Francisco, and this time they are definitely not returning to New York. Heartbreak. After Yoga Vida class, go for dinner with two friends. They tell me they're moving to Indiana. I drink too much wine and stay up too late (but when have I ever drunk just enough wine and come home early when I hang out with them?). Reserve Ride the Zone bike at 1:30 am. Inappropriately update every social network status I have. In bed, throw a pity party of one. Sleep four terrible and tipsy hours. Wake up an hour and fifteen minutes before my alarm goes off. Hate life, hate life, hate life. Resolve to still go to Ride the Zone class because sometimes Kaitlyn has too much wine and she still makes it to RTZ to "honor her commitment to herself." Decide Grown-Ass Women go to the Church of Marion and pray she'll save them from themselves.
Class(es) Taken:
CYKO ZONE - Marion Roaman
Place:
Ride the Zone-Upper East Side
Date:

Workout
baby hoop and baby steps
Upon my return from my fairy godmother travels, I got two big rejections, one from grad school, and the other from a big arts festival. I was especially bummed because I'd spent the last few weeks envisioning myself telling people in bars, "Oh yes, I"m getting my MFA in playwriting and in my spare time I hula hoop and train for aerial silks. Please come see my two blockbuster shows this fall.

Character Building & Circuit Training
According to my August horoscope (Hi, Taurus, how you doin'?!), the cardinal cross of the planets will be task-mastering me into focusing on work projects and my physical and mental health. Decisions will be made. clarity will be achieved and bad habits will be broken. Since the universe seems to have a whole lot of character building in mind for me, I thought I would work on one of my bad habits: wussing out on exercise that sounds like it might hurt. I took msh's circuit, picked the exercise in each category that sounded the least appealing, and made myself do it. It looked like this, 3 times:

Dancing Queen!

All this family time means getting creative about exercise
Took my nephew to a water park today. Spending two hours tossing a 5 year old around a wave pool is hard work. My favorite was doing bicep curls by picking him up by the collar of his lifevest. Got a leg workout by pretending to be a mama duck & duck walking through the pool for 20 mins. And when he threw his little arms around me for a big hug while yelling, "I'm a zombie!

The Inspirational Bathroom
This is my uncle's bathroom. He does a lot of bike races and runs a lot of marathons, so he decorated his bathroom with his medals, pictures of him racing and inspirational quotes. We call it his inspirational bathroom.
We had a long family barbecue on the lake today. Lots of swimming, croquet, playing tag and hula hoop challenges. After dinner, we invented a new family sport: hula hooping while eating a brownie sundae. Obviously, I was the champion.

i beat my my siblings up the big hill!
Greetings from Oregon! Got off the plane and went with my sister and her boyfriend straight to my great-grandmother's old estate, which she left to the State of Oregon upon her death and is now a state park. We met my brother and my nephew, ate watermelon, played tag and then hiked around the trails of the park.
Workout
I was only allowed to get a mani pedi if I went to the gym first
So I did. My fave - Lite FM Elliptical, which turned into "Perv out on Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt in Mr. & Mrs. Smith on TV 5" Elliptical. I cranked the incline up to the max so my lust could help me climb every mountain. Looking around the men at the gym, I had two thoughts: 1) What the hell happened to Mohawk??

Rx me!
I'm going to be out of town for most of this week for a wedding on my stepdad's side of the family. They're a bunch of super lovely, long, lithe Hawaiians and I know they'll be excited to hear about my year to aerial silks. My baby sister, in particular, is thrilled to be my trainer/coach/taskmaster. She can't wait to watch me sweat.

Strip this!
I took it 2 hours ago and my thighs are already feeling it from the warm up. The dance portion is fun and not too hard to follow. Also, I love stripper push-ups.
GIRL! We miss you! You can get back in shape, we know it!
Come hang out with us on 2.0. I know it looks different and does all sorts of different things, but we're all there and we love you.

@spindig - it turns out the class i went to is aerial conditioning - which is kind of like aerial silks for dummies. super beginner, super broken down. we did "climb" the rope, or at least i tried to. i'm under the impression that aerial yoga involves more a of a fabric hammock. this was two pieces of silk tied together sometimes to make a hammock.
