Echo of Feats of Summer 09?
Just received this freebie offer from a business that's on the same floor as SoWo HQ! So this is like a two-fer. Say hi and learn to juggle! Plus, I think this is being taught by the owner of this company, which is kind of cool:

500s
You wrote, we like ~ the Eds.
In the last few weeks I decided ratcheting up each category to the nearest 500 would keep MMM interesting. Here's what happened...
Boxing, Kickboxing, Martial Arts, 552 minutes: To make my swimming minutes, I'm indulging in a freebie trial week at the 24 Hour Fitness that sits on the juncture of three very different neighborhoods plus a massive free parking lot (parking is a very big deal in San Francisco) as well as a notorious bus line that goes to a dicier part of town. Which is to say – all kinds at this gym, packed in like a subway during rush hour. Which leads to the kickboxing class taught by a zaftig madonna named Libby.

changing it up without changing it much
Sadly, I haven't done any day rides during the MMM. My cycling minutes have mostly been commuter minutes except for a handful of spinning classes and a few 7ish minute stints on the rowing thing.

Monday holiday I lucked out w/ one of my favorite things on the planet: a walk in the woods. Sublime breeze cooled scorching sun, not-too-killer ascents or descents, amazing views of ocean and mountain. Can't get more god-bless-america than that, IMHO.

not your typical summer day
Solstice called for a pilgrimage to Mt. Shasta near the Oregon border. It was freezing: we couldn't have worn enough layers! Yet breathtaking: Patagonia, pshaw! The terrain was a nerve-wracking slippery icing of pock-marked, snowed-in moonscape that we balanced, power-cored and "whoa-whoa-whoad" over, lunging up lung-burning ascents and tiptoeing down hold-your-breath descents.

do that to me one more time
My attempt to become one with the home workout continued w/ my juggling four DVDs at once, incorporating old computer, tv, laptops, anything to keep from being distracted, in spite of which, it took me a day of off and on to get through these bad boys. I have complete admiration for people who can get through a workout at home in one go.

dabbling at home
Tried a little sampler of web videos. I know I do this in live classes all the time, but why at home does it feel like coordinating my own moves with what I'm watching is damn near impossible? And that was before trying it with headphones.

a perfect storm
Alas, two of my favorite classes are scheduled same time, different gyms. Made it to the one I hadn't been to in forever, & now I'm thinking I really need to get back to it more often, dancing lifting, lunging, bosu balancing, extra tricky slipping around in my own sweat. All happening in the reflection of A Perfect Storm being projected onto the movie screen behind us.

If sweat doesn't fall from my forehead, is it still exercise?

Hi e4e! I check back a couple times a week but this last week has been to-ta-lly crazy while I've been prepping to go back to SF! My flight today was cancelled so I'm enjoying ice storm limbo for a couple of days but have been sorely missing seriously working out. I would have loved to have tried your last 2 Fri yoga classes but I had conflicts in Brklyn.
Yah, the new site. Personally, I think its lackluster to do with the design! But whatever. I've only been doing challenges over there to keep with what I liked about this site. But you might like setting up your own goals at least as aside to your blog input. I think you must have goals and or a challenge in order to post, but after tracking is as significant as you'd like it to be. von Hottie is the new Charity writing fitness related news, gossip, cheerleading and troubleshooting for us. There definitely is more community there than here, so maybe give it a shot and follow some of us so you start to get a recognizable feed a la FB. My handle over there is kmcm although I probably write more about bicycling there than I do here!

In my five day trial at EQ in SF last May, i tried it twice (and it obliterated me both times). So I assume it's on all the Equinox schedules. I'm conflicted about Crunch not picking it up. Do I really want to kill myself or feel guilty about not killing myself on a regular basis?

The weight is unbelievable. SO much lighter! I felt like I was cheating in rebounding class during all the leg work. And I can see how transporting them is perfect!

Hey I just got some Vibrams! I've worn them like 4 times (most recently on the trampoline in Resistance Rebounding). So far I like them most for hiking on non-pavement; it feels like a foot massage!

Oh that is so lousy. Cool that you stick with it, but you might be right about taking a break. This is where it kind of helps if it's raining.

I hear you! This week I'm bottoming out on the physical so it's nice to hear you're getting it in, but sorry it's at the expense of other important parts.
(yup, I'm still lurking here but am posting on 2.0 as kmcm. I love things about both sites - am a fan of the heart feature on two point oh since words escape me so often.)

Sounds like you're doing a good job managing autumnal craziness. Zumba & kabocha squash, I should keep that in mind.
There's a more neurotic approach that I find helpful sometimes, from Jenny Holzer: "categorizing fear is calming." Droll, but it can help!

I think I learned the term "myofascial release" when a friend told me about Rolfing and shortly before or after when I was introduced to the foam roller. So, right or wrong, I've always thought of the roller as being a way to self-inflict Rolfing.

I don't see how not providing food stamps is telling anybody what they can or cannot drink. It's just not subsidizing the choice.

Sorry to hear that. Don't blame yourself for any of it -- there are still bugs impeding the flow of 2.0. It took me a couple of weeks to get through the sign up process myself. Maybe check back in a while and consider giving it another chance. It's definitely a work in progress.

I've taken a lot of these Anti-Gravity Wings classes -- they seem to vary a LOT depending on instructor. It's too bad they're so far out of the way in NY bc it would be nice to try them all. Although, regardless, it still might be boring compared with the real silky thing.

Am loving these comments. On 2.0 I just sort of vowed not to make more political comments on the site, so that's all I'm going to say, for now.
Except, well, yoga is different things to different people, and I have been in class time and again where it seems as if the instructor, trained in the physical, oversteps boundaries -- and expertise -- by venturing into talking too much about whatever. I think with Hatha Yoga (which I understand to be the yoga that most Americans think of as "Yoga") the power of change is in the physical poses, pure and simple.

Amrit's hot yoga is your favorite? I've only taken it a couple of times, but what I especially loved about it is how it followed the Bikram list but was better! Beating them at their own © & ® poses -- love it! (and I think it speaks for A's authenticity)
So, hearing about the aerial silks... I kind of hate to say it but you *really* should think about joining 2.0! When I was in NY, I ran into Von Hottie at a bar owned by a mutual and friend, and next thing you know I've signed up for her Aerial Silks Challenge on 2.0. So far I've only taken the Anti-Gravity Yoga Wings counterpart at Crunch, but I've been sweetly surprised by the aerial solidarity the Silk Road Challenge has brought. You are not alone in upper body despair!

SoWo is a little out of control, I think, and everybody's feeling growing pains/a little neglected. I couldn't join either and at some point contacted Oliver. It was a bug in the browser I use, and they were able to get me signed up. So, I'd try shooting them an email or try signing up from a different computer or web browser. I wouldn't take it personally!

Roller Derby! I've only been once, (don't know how I managed to make the Village Voice) but I gotta say, it was a nail biter! It even went into overtime. Perhaps most suprising, but not?, is that the teams that aren't playing man all the operations - ticketing, concessions, etc. - unpaid - it's this big happy family vibe.
