Baby belly running fast
Went on a 7 mile run with my RP the other day. It was great but we both kept trying to "keep up" with the other one and the result was... well, fast. I felt the aftereffects all day. It felt good, but so much for my "not pushing too hard while preggers" mantra. To make up for it, I went for a nice long walk yesterday instead of running. See? I can practice moderation... a little. ;)
Sweet, sweet defeat!!!
I've never been so happy to fail at a challenge. I noticed a few weeks back that I had done just enough workouts that I could still squeeze in enough for the challenge if I worked out every day. That is what I would have normally done. Gone all OCD and gotten sh%^ done. But that was also the day that I got my POSITIVE pregnancy test. Uh huh. That would be a big ole +++++!
Workout
Run, nap, walk
Ran just over 2 miles to the beach... I was so sleepy that I had to lay down on the grass to soak up a little sunshine. I almost fell sound asleep. The last 3 miles of my run turned into more of walk / hobble / jog / walk. Too warm and not enough food, I think. Still felt good.
Workout
Around and around we go
10 miles. And they were the energizing kind of miles. Felt like I could run all day.
Week 8 healthy cooking
Steak Salad.... soooooo good.
I got home from a 10 mile run and was ravenous. This led to me throwing everything in my kitchen into one single salad and the result was magical.
Spinach
Carrots
Chopped fennel
Red Onion
Tomatoes
Diced jalapeno jack cheese
4 oz New York steak sliced super thin and seared in garlic and olive oil
So juicy and tasty, no dressing was necessary.
Workout
7 miles in the rain
Did a very wet 7 miles last night. It felt good despite the sloppy downpour. Maybe even better because of it.
Workout
yoga, yes!
Been too long. Felt so good. Drifted off to sleep at the end!

Week 7 healthy cooking
Not Quite Borcht:
This is basically a borscht recipe but it has less beets and more bite than the traditional versions I’ve tried before. Usually I can only eat a little borscht because it tends to be so sweet and intense, but I could eat a whole pot of this soup. mmmmm. It’s also extremely easy and healthy.
Workout
Morning run with the girls
Two friends and I did 2 laps around Discovery Park today. Morning runs are always hard for me, but I felt pretty good. It was 5.6 miles with some rolling hills and a comfortable (10:30ish) pace.
Week 6 healthy cooking
Small pile of fresh egg noodles + huge pile of steamed red cabbage + topper of low fat cottage cheese. A little pepper and garlic salt sprinkled on the sloppy looking, but so oh-so-tasty, mess.

Last back-in-town catch up post!
Sorry about the string of catch up posts! Crazy week full of family, traveling, getting married, and more family! But this one gets me up to date... today's run- 4.4 miles.
Workout
Hyper-caffeinated run
After a weekend of preparing for and then going to our camping and wedding festivities, we came back to Seattle exhausted and I went for one more run with my dad before he flew home to CA. I wasn't sure if I would be able to drag myself out of bed, let alone run the 8.33 mile route we planned. One double latte later, I was good to go.
Workout
Wedding day hike part 2
After returning from a run with my dad and brother in law, I returned to the camp to find my hubby-to-be and 7 other friends staging to go for a hike. I re-hydrated, put my running shoes back on and went for my second workout of the day- a 5 mile hike to an abandoned mine. This was followed by swimming in a deliciously icy river and then getting married to my sweetie. What a day, huh?!
Workout
Wedding day run part 1
I woke up on my wedding day and went for a run with my dad and my brother in law. It was a camping wedding so were in a lovely place full of trails and hills and trees and meadows. It was a nice way to wake up.

Great classes
The gym is definitely small, but I've never had to wait for a machine. My biggest reason for joining this gym was the great variety of classes. they offer tons of yoga, strength classes, kickboxing, etc. and every instructor I've had so far has totally kicked ass.
Ooh, the detox feat scares me!

WA state doesn't rank so hot either, but the city of Seattle has a very young and fit population and so I tend to forget that this is not the norm. When my mom and visited Disneyland last month, we were shocked at the average weight. Completely blown away. It was like stepping into the movie, Wall-E. People weren't just a little overweight, but ALOT. And not just a few people, but MOST. It was the first time I really understood why this being called an epidemic.
And it really made me thankful that I learned healthy habits from my parents. I know first hand how hard it is to lose a measly 10lbs even when you know exactly how to do it... but imagine trying to lose 10x when nutrition and exercise are not familiar?!
I am completely sympathetic to how overwhelming the challenge is for the individual, but at the same time I want to shake the nation by the shirt collar and yell "What the h%^LL are you doing to yourself? Snap out of it!"

Thanks for the advice! I tried a chin-up for the first time (since high school anyway) yesterday. It was hard! Harder than I expected. Luckily there is a park 1 block from my house with pull up bars so I can practice often. Clearly I will need it!

What a coincidence... I just bought a pair a few days ago! I look like a duck when I wear them, but they feel good and I can't wait to try running in them. If they turn out to be a miraculous cure to all of my running injuries, I will be sure to let you know!

I love it! I'm all for hula hooping, long planks, chin-ups, head stands, and photo shoots.... and how about trying a new type of workout every week (something that we haven't done for any challenge yet)? As in, tennis one week, unicycling the next, then rock climbing, etc etc... the first month may be easy, but I bet we'll have to get mighty creative by the end of summer.

They're great! I've done the "Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism" dvd several times. It's 40 min of pretty intense circuits and 5 min warm up & stretching. The circuits have things like kickboxing, jumping from squats, some active ab work, and a couple of the circuits are so hard that I can barely keep up (and I'm in decent shape). I really like it.
I've also tried her "30 Day Shred" a couple of times and I recommend it too. Level 1 was ok, but level 2 totally rocked me, and I haven't tried level 3 yet. The circuits in this workout are much more intense (and require hand weights) but only last 15 min. It's about the most intense workout you could possibly squeeze into 15 min!

I stumbled over a few of the steps, but for the most part they were straight forward. I think after doing it a couple more times the whole routine will be no problem.

Thanks for all of the great ideas! I'm definitely going to get some silken tofu and rice milk. This should be an interesting few weeks :)

That is too cool. I took an acrobatics class for a few months so I can *almost* do that. Haha. I wish.

I usually run around 4 or 5pm. It's important for me to get enough food throughout the day or else I'll bonk on the run, but I also need to stop eating about 2hrs before running or else my stomach will complain. And if there is anything that doesn't always settle well with your tummy... avoid it all day (I made the mistake of running several hours after eating scrambled eggs for lunch last week, and ended up burping gross sulphur eggy flavor the whole time. Ewwww.)
Good luck!

Nice! Don't you love when motivation sneaks up on you like that? And 7mph is a good strong pace too!

Thanks for the comments and advice!
I'm a whole grains and veggies girl already (and no refined sugar), so there isn't too much room for improvement there. I do butt-loads of cardio / fat burning stuff and regular yoga, but I think you're both right about adding variety. I can probably use some more strength training in there to keep it balanced.
And holy cow, I just looked at my gym's website and found out that "personal training is included" in our membership. Wow. I'll give to give that a try, for sure.

I'm sure lots of people can provide you inspiration about eating healthy, but here's my inspiration about how to be grossed out by junk food... it both cracks me up and makes me nauseous all at the same time! :) http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/
