Workout
this is no place for a girl on fire
I wanted to stay home and start reading Mockingjay, but I waited until after class.
Workout
other people's appendectomies
Boyfriend had his appendix out a week and a half ago. Two 12 hour emergency room trips, and nearly a week in the hospital (plus 4 days of home recovery in which I did a ton of errands and water-fetching, chair-moving, etc.).
Workout
two isn't quite a trend
another nice Friday, another Friday bike ride. this one south to battery park. watched the sailboats, then came home. [9 miles]
Workout
better off
I'm glad I napped in the morning, because even though I got a lot done yesterday, I wasn't too tired to go to the gym.
Class(es) Taken:
Masala Bhangra - Sarina Jain
Place:
Crunch - Union Square
Date:
Tue, 08/03/2010 (All day)
Workout
near miss
5 minutes before I needed to leave for the gym, I was tired and achy from doing my csa shift, carrying home our veggies, and putting them away. But I put on my shoes anyway, and made it to class. definitely the right call. so what if dinner ended up as roasted tomatoes and potato chips?
Class(es) Taken:
Masala Bhangra - Sarina Jain
Date:
Tue, 07/27/2010 (All day)
Workout
making the right choices
Finished my research early. Instead of playing on the internet for the rest of the time, I shut my laptop and walked home.
I just did 480 more minutes of Running and Walking!
Workout
expotition
a full day and a half wandering around a new city. I'd count it as two work outs if it weren't for the bolognese and the chowder.
Workout
expresso bikes should have fans that blow faster when you're headed downhill
biked inside—even southern girls have their limits—but missed the breeze. it's my favorite part of biking. [7 miles]

Workout
probably too hot to bike
98 in the shade, but we picnicked in prospect park, then met friends at a beer garden, then had fried chicken, then biked home. I blame the arguments on the heat, but still wish I was fast enough to keep up. [16 miles]

I so needed that today. Only wish I'd seen it earlier.

Yeah, I've heard that thinking about nothing is like best-monks-in-the-monastery level meditation. Which made me feel a lot better about not being able to do it. I like the audio files here: http://marc.ucla.edu/body.cfm?id=22 they're really practical in tone and once you've listened to them for a while, you can run through the steps yourself. It looks like there are a lot more than there were when I downloaded mine, but I have the 19 minute instructions, the 5 minute breathing meditation, and the 3 minute body and sound meditation, and all three are good.

@nfolkert Sure, but there were also workouts in March by people (like me) who didn't do feralicious. Plus, active moments that aren't part of a workout definitely could add up.
Get great news and jump up and down? There's a minute! Actually, that gives me an idea...

What kind of swim class are you taking? I like to pretend that my lack of endurance swimming is because my technique sucks and not because I'm so out of shape (reality: it's both). But I've never been sure what class someone takes who's not up to a masters swim class but who's known how to swim for decades.

Yeah, I remember driving by that. We actually cooked three out of five dinners (I lost a Driggs day somewhere in the counting), and had the other two in Victor. The whole thing was so relaxing.

Believe it or not, Driggs was days 1-3. I wish I'd known! Next time, it's on the list.

add an extra vegetable or fruit to each meal (even snacks, so if you want goldfish, you also have to have part of an apple or some carrot sticks). I did this at a time when I couldn't really change my eating/spending habits, and it made me feel like I was really doing something about my health. Also, I noticed it making a difference in my energy and weight. I was just thinking I should start doing it again, actually.

For the ribs-sinus infection perfect storm, try hugging something squishy whenever you need to cough or sneeze. Stuffed animals are pretty much perfect in size/squishiness, but if you can't get away with that at work, a soft pillow or balled-up blanked works too.

I imagine that if I ever tried to get off a ski lift in snowshoes, you would learn the true meaning of "superdork". Also, shouldn't steps in snowshoes count double or something?
