Windy, sore back, no coach :(
Yesterday I was so pumped to get a row in with my former coach (also my brother in law). Shortly before practice my SIL (the pregnant one) tells me that her husband can't coach... OK... We can still row... but we only have 6 people (you need 8)... OK, we will take out a 4 person boat and one of the girls is going to go home, the other girl will erg and jump in the
I just did 60 more minutes of Cycling, Spinning, & Rowing!
Featured Body
So excited!!
In which this week's Featured Body, mindyse, anticipates a great session with one of the best coaches she has ever met.
I am so excited for this, I can hardly wait for 5:30 to arrive. I started rowing in 1995, just dinking around, nothing serious. When I was in PT school, I decided to join Marquette University's Rowing Club. They had a new coach that year, a recent grad from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and he really knew what he was doing. We were fast, really fast and even though we were a small club, we were pretty competitive with varsity level colleges.

Fluoresent Yellow and Spandex — That's Crew Practice, Not the 80s
In which this week's Featured Body, mindyse, gets put through her paces by a pregnant lady.
My sister-in-law and I went out in a 2 person boat tonight for what I had worked up in my head for a semi-hard/sort of relaxing row. I somehow had convinced myself that since she is 16 weeks pregnant, she wouldn't be up for a leg numbing pounding down the Milwaukee River. I was of course wrong.
I just did 60 more minutes of Cycling, Spinning, & Rowing!
Workout
I think my arms are going to fall off
Waking up this morning, after 90 min of indoor soccer late last night, I felt pretty good. It is a good thing because today I had to facilitate at the ropes and challenges course. We set up the high wire elements and as the morning wore on I could feel my muscles getting tighter and tighter from last night.
Workout
Trying hard to be a more aggressive person (I mean soccer player)
Each week, we highlight one of the great minds and bodies in our Social Workout community. This week's "Featured Body," coach, physical therapist, rower, and mom, mindyse. Look for her workouts on the homepage all week.
I had mentioned a few weeks ago that my soccer coach wanted me to be more aggressive on the field. Meaning go hard to get the ball - even if there is someone in your way. I've been working on it, thinking a lot about it...
Workout
Hello tired legs
It's been about a week and a half off of running and i figured I'd kick off the million minute challenge by getting back into the groove... OMG! I cannot believe how taking such a short amount of time off makes everything hurt.

Workout
OMG! My aching stomach = no workouts
I don't know what happened to me last week, but all of a sudden I had the worst stomach pain/cramps/body aches (even my teeth hurt) and yet it continues to linger.
I was trying to up my fiber intake and all was going fine for 4 days and then Sat rolled along and BAM bedridden... Personally, I think I caught a bug of some sort and I'm ready to be done with it.
Workout
Wind, Waves, Rain, The Boatrace, and Blisters... Must be April!
Oh yeah, the first "on the water" row of the year! YES, YES, YES,!!!! 5 months of fozen river, not working out, getting fat, getting fat, getting even fatter my sister in law and I took a double out (2 person scull) and got one hell of a workout in.
Workout
Seriously only 20 min!
I did a running/exercise (pushup, squat etc) circuits today and I was so pooped by the end of it I figured that it had to have been about 30 min. Nope just 20.
Sigh
Workout
I'm faster than my dog
Well I finally tired my dog out. I never thought I'd see the day that I have to cheer on my 5 year old, australian shepard/border collie mix dog to pick it up the final 2 blocks of our run.

Good for you! I would never in a million years even pretend to think I could run 5 miles at this point in my life. I have admire anyone who pushes themselves like that.

That totally makes me laugh! Being from Wisconsin I'm not going to argue this one. I know of some neighborhoods where there is a bar on all 4 corners of an intersection.
No wonder I'm constantly trying to lose 10 lbs! Oh plus the inability to "play outside" from the months of Nov - March, unless you have snow, which isn't guaranteed these days. Or the constant festivals/good times in summer. It has become apparent to me that unless we move, I'm doomed.
Just kidding of course - plus I love where we live :)

I play on an over 30 rec league and I have to say it is one of the best workouts ever. I started about 9 years ago, and my strength in my legs, trunk and ankles have never been better.

That happened to me last month. I can't believe the guilt I felt. Then at the end when they announced the final numbers of who finished I nearly cried knowing I wasn't one of them. I was thinking I was odd for caring what a bunch of random strangers thought of me for not finishing.

Having a job that requires a atate license, my state typically grandfathers in or makes allowances for the people who have been practicing prior to the change in the law. For my profession, they grandfathered in PTA's and made changes in continuing ed rules to ensure they were staying current.
I would think that yoga instructors have a professional organization that should be included in the process

First of all, 5k after a baby? My son just turned 1 and there is no way I would attempt a 5k, so congrats!
secondly, ankle pain... assuming there isn't anything seriously wrong with it. 20lb bag of rice, a large container and your foot/leg. Jam your leg into the rice and start working the alphabet. Helped me after severe "shin splints" a couple of years ago.

Isn't it amazing how a little thing here and there transform your week into something you can barely manage!

Actually my friend is a retired olympian. She thinks everything is easy, mainly because she has a screw lose in her brain that allows her to push herself well beyond where the normal human would stop.

The funniest thing is I was about 10 lbs lighter than I am now about 3 weeks after the baby was born, then it creeped back on (I think my metabolism slowed down). I think I also lost a significant amount of muscle while pregnant. Breastfeeding did nothing to help me lose weight.
Your are right... Mother's unite!
