Double Bad News: An early end to bootcamp and the pool is closed
Ugh. Yesterday brought double bad workout news that hurt my heart: I found out my bootcamp was cancelled for September and October because of low attendance and my swimming pool is closed until mid-September for renovations.
Workout
Catch Up: Trail Running
After sleeping in so late Saturday, the day was HOT by the time my partner and I hit the streets for a run. So we ducked into the shade of Rock Creek Park thinking a little relief from the sun would make the run easier. And maybe it did, but the tree roots, hills and other challenges of trail running that I usually adore were nearly impossible.
Workout
Catch Up: More Squats!?
I actually had nightmares on Thursday night about bootcamp on Friday because my legs were so sore STILL from the workouts earlier in the week.
I dreamt that I fussed about my legs being sore and my bootcamp instructor said, "Lets give them a break then and do push ups....for an hour!"
Workout
My Legs Are SO SORE
Holy Cow. I can barely walk because my legs and rump are so sore from Wed. bootcamp. But that is no excuse!
I stretched those puppies out and took them for a three mile run. They were a bit grumpy with me about it at first, but by the end they were feeling a little better. I also gave them a bit of a break by doing 20 minutes of weight lifting -- arms only.
Workout
A Quick Trip Back In Time
While in Seattle and Yellowstone last week, I did not have internet access so I couldn't post my workouts -- which as a result petered towards the end of the week. (No accountability equals no workouts!) But the beginning started out strong!
Workout
Feeling Somewhere Between Pathetic And Tough Stuff
The fact that I was sore yesterday from Tuesday's measly three mile run speaks to how little I've run this summer -- which seems pathetic given how much I ran last summer. And it did not bode well for my return to bootcamp yesterday.
Workout
Vacation Pudge
I thought vigorously hiking through Yellowstone for four days during my vacation would forefend against the pudgy, unhealthy feeling I usually have when I travel and eat out for every meal.
Wrong.
Workout
Pushing And Pulling: A Fitting End
Our yoga practice tonight was dedicated to identifying what pulls us forward with desire and what pushes us away with dismay, and to begin embracing both. I thing that is a fitting way to approach the end of the Million Minute Month(s).
I just did 75 more minutes of Yoga, Meditation, Chanting!
I just did 60 more minutes of Weightlifting, Circuit Training & CrossFit!

Push-up Update
I wrapped up week two of the six week push up plan last Sunday, and did my "fatigue test" today in boot camp to determine how many push ups I can do in a row with good form – the answer is 26. And I am pretty pleased!
Workout
1,000 Meters In A Row Again
Now I know last week's 1,000 meters of freestyle without stopping wasn't a fluke because I did it again last night – plus 200 more meters! So I swam 1,200 meters without stopping.

Are there running clubs there? Maybe that would be a good way to meet people (and see them consistently enough to actually get to know them)?

I think you should give boot camp another shot. It sounds like a great challenge, and like it showed you that you could do things you thought were impossible. (But maybe use slightly lighter weights and build up so you are not cripplingly sore!)

I don't know -- maybe do the whole six wks w knee push ups and then start over doing it w/ full ones? I think it takes a long time to build up w push ups. At least that is what I am telling myself as I prepare to start week three for the third time. I'm stuck at about 26 push ups at a time and week three I'm supposed to do some sets with 30. I feel daunted. But I am seeing results.

I was thinking about you and the push ups the other day -- wondering how they are going. I wonder if this plan would be more realistic if it included "negative" weeks like that pull up plan. Like if you did the whole six week program doing push ups on a bench or table -- so that you practiced the correct form and number -- but it took a little weight off of the arms. I realized this bc I am getting to numbers that are really hard and daunting and was trying to figure out a way to do it w/o feeling overwhelmed or discouraged.... Just a thought i had.

I would recommend going the distance and then picking up speed later once your endurance is well established because you don't want to hurt yourself by doing too much at once. Likewise, you don't want to exhaust yourself by going fast and then be unable to go the required distance. When you get to that point you might try running on an incline at the same pace as you do for a flat surface or running faster short intervals with longer intervals at your regular pace.

Oh MAN! At least you put your book down. I read through my allotted morning workout time yesterday by accident. I thought I would read a few pages while I drank my coffee and then run 3 or 5 miles, but I lost track of time and next thing I knew it was 6:30 -- not enough time to exercise before work. So I kept reading....

Yaaay! I am so excited you are doing this challenge too!! I couldn't do full push ups for a really long time (the 1,000s finally got me there). I think knee push ups are totally valid and if you keep it up you will do full ones in no time. You could also try doing full ones on an incline by putting your hands on a sturdy table and doing them from there as another variation and then slowly lower the incline until you are on the floor. Yay! I'm excited for challenge friends!
