Workout
from the top
my obligatory summit photo!
inventory of wounded body parts, from most to least uncomfortable:
Workout
summiting
I climbed Mount Adams yesterday: 12,281 feet. My first mountain! It took us 12 1/2 hours to get up and back; thankfully we had a true "alpine start" and left camp at 3 AM. It was significantly harder, physically, than I ever would have expected; I understand now why people say that climbing Mt. Hood (shorter than Adams by ~1000 feet) is the same as running a marathon.
Workout
moving day
yesterday: moving day. nothing more to say about it other than it was as miserable as moves always are, it took me seventeen hours total, and I was so sore at the end that I was nearly delirious. I have no idea how many of those hours count as "workout hours" but I'm counting at least 12. I've never hauled so much heavy stuff or walked up so many stairs in my life. oof.
Workout
FINALLY
For the duration of this challenge, I've had to log the majority of my minutes into the Misc. category, since much of what I do is equine-related. But that category also includes "vigorous sex," which, as a single person, has been TAUNTING ME. Unfair!
But HA! I'm done being taunted!
Workout
finally kayaking
After my morning ride on Saturday, I headed out to my 2 PM kayaking tour on the Willamette River, something I've wanted to do for the entire 5 years I've lived here. I made the reservation for myself only, since most of my friends are out of town and I wasn't sure who'd want to spend fifty bucks to essentially work their arms for two and a half hours.
Workout
sweet equine reunion
This morning was my first morning back riding in about a week and a half -- or more? It's just been so crazy, even once the opera season ended. Then we had the dentist/vet out on Wednesday to do teeth and vaccinations, leaving Cookie with several more days of rest before she could be ridden.
Workout
poop.
Before the date last night, I had to work at the barn. There's really nothing like frantically shoveling poop and throwing hay at horses in order to have enough time to shower and make yourself presentable. It's hard to get out of there without talking to people, or snuggling up with my mare.
Workout
long walk around the riverfront
So, Friday night was date two with a runner in my Friday running group. Last Saturday was the long-awaited date one, which almost didn't happen for about a hundred reasons, the stupidest and strongest one being that I wasn't sure if I wanted to go. THANK GOD MY ROOMMATE KNOCKED SOME SENSE INTO ME! (She said, "WHY NOT??" and I couldn't think of a good reason).
Workout
5.8 miles
Had the worst run today. It's a gorgeous day outside, about 70 degrees and FINALLY SUNNY, so I decided to run a recreational 10K on a multi-use path near my office. I've kind of lost my running mojo this week; I've been stressed and underhydrated. I forget to eat lunch before I hit the trail and I suffer.

I totally believe it. Just went to her concert two weeks ago and drove by her in a back parking lot, with her posse, taking pictures. No pants.

I'm glad this seems to work for some people, but I'm afraid my skepticism isn't at all helped by reading a webpage that insists on calling doctors "parasitic, white coated serial killers" again and again.

Wow, first commando commenter! I still have certain things I'll wear underwear with, but in general I go without. It's probably in part because my primary workout is running, and running shorts have underwear built in; I'm so used to that now that it carries over to my other workouts. For me, not wearing underwear is (most of the time) not about VPL, but about comfort: I find underwear under yoga pants, for example, to be sweatier and bunchier. I never wear them anymore when I'm horseback riding because I have to have JUST the right underwear under my breeches or else they're uncomfortable. But I could care less if anyone else wears underwear!

funny -- when I first saw this post I bristled a little, because I'm skinny and I hate when people tell me they think I should eat a cheeseburger!
but then I watched the video and I wanted her to eat a cheeseburger.

AUGH. A couple of years ago she took up horseback riding, which mainly meant buying an extremely expensive schoolmaster (a horse who's so well-trained the rider can essentially learn from it rather than the other way around) and wearing a lot of pink. My eyes practically roll out of my head.

I should clarify my earlier comment: the people who tick me off most on the multi-use path are the runners and walkers, not the cyclists. I do get peeved when cyclists whizz by me without so much as a bell, a horn, or a polite "on your left" (because sometimes i truly don't hear them coming and they startle me) but generally the folks that drive me BAT SHIT CRAZY are the people who are obliviously walking in the middle of, or on the wrong side of, the path -- especially when they're in groups.
I will actually play chicken with people who are walking/running on the "wrong side" of the path, provided that I'm all the way over. I just barrel towards them. I've discovered that most people will move :)
oh_totally, if that dude is running FAST in the wrong direction in the outside lanes, that just would tick me off even more! You hold strong; you have the right of way!
I'm also a nutbag when I'm at the grocery store so this space consideration thing is obviously a big deal for me. I guess we all have to take out our aggression somehow, eh? ;)

Those running in the "correct" direction (to the left) get the right of way; those who wish to run in the opposite direction need to stay all the way to the outside. While I'm at it, slower runners/walkers/folks walking 3 abreast (AUGHH!!) should also stay to the outside to let those moving faster take the inside.
I am a COMPLETE LUNATIC when it comes to trail/path/track etiquette. I run on a multi-use path in a very bike-centric town and I am seriously a total nutjob about: a) staying to the right; b) announcing your presence when you intend to pass someone (I do this as a runner but I am particularly looking at you, cyclists); c) not taking up too much space on the trail when I'm in a group. And I'm totally the person who yells "WATCH IT BUDDY" when a stupid guy on a stupid trick bike isn't paying attention and nearly runs me over.
Which is all to say: If that guy running clockwise isn't staying out of your way, run him over!

My hard and fast running rule: If I've planned a run for myself and I don't feel like going, I have to put my clothes on first before I bail. Once I'm dressed, I feel like A Runner and I might as well go for my run. So far I've only bailed while wearing running clothes once.

p.s. it was actually 11 miles total because I parked at work and ran to the start. I walked back, though -- I'm not that crazy!
