Workout
Soak the saddle
After a long hiatus, I was finally able to ride my bike today. Outdoors! One hour. I even sprinted, away from cabs. Surprisingly, all the hill climbing training on the gym bike didn't do squat for helping me climb the Queens bridge faster. But now I seem to be able to accelerate much faster on the flats.
Workout
Hooked on a feeling
The rain foiled my plan to start biking outdoors again, so I wasn't able to scratch some minutes off the cardio unplugged. I almost stayed home, but was finally able to motivate myself to get to the gym. I'm going to be on vacation for several days and don't really know what opportunities I'll have for working out. Best to get in as much as possible now.
Workout
New encouragement
I completed 35 pushups today. That's at least 3 times more than I've done in my entire life. I was one of those high school phys. ed. defectors. The only things I was good at was the V-reach (how embarassing) and making half-court shots in basketball (a true abberation). So the fact that I was able to do 7 pushups in one set is really friggin' amazing to me.
Workout
2/25 Nonexciting Post
So, this was the last workout I managed to get in this month. I really should have squeezed in 2 more days of weights and much more cardio. I prefer to get my cardio outdoors and the snowstroms pretty much killed any chance of me biking. Here's looking to a better March and I'm totally gonna whip the cardio portion of Feralicious!

2/20 Nonexciting Post
I just want to log the remaining workouts so that I can get to the gym tonight for FERALICIOUS!
Feb 20: Like 2 hours of weights, but only 15 minutes of high intensity intervals on the elliptical. I think I partied too hard last night.

Web celibacy. Or, just because I don't come around doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you.
Dear SW,
Workout
Beware the Ides of Feb
On the 15th, I tried to absolve myself of the past weekend's sins. I arrived at the gym intending to just do some cardio. Then I thought about the rich stouts and porters I had consumed - not to mention the vodka, how many I forget. The fancy grilled cheese that wasn't worth the calories or the price - and let's not forget about the perfect fries that happened to come along for the ride.

Logging in the 14th
I need to seriously catch up on my workout logs, so let's keep this short and sweet.
Yes sir. I've always been a V Day cynic and have never celebrated it. I guess I did plunk down $2 for a white carnation in junior high for a friend, but I don't think that's a real blemish on my record. I've been lucky that none of my gfs have been into it either, or so they've said.
Workout
Subway quickie
Saturday was action-packed. Early morning workshop, taking guests to museums and a birthday party that went on till 5am. Somehow I managed to get in one healthy meal with millet couscous, fish and veggies. While it wasn't a complete workout, I'm still proud of myself for walking the stairs for 15 minutes while waiting for the damn train to arrive.
Workout
Derailment
There’s nothing quite like having guests in town to throw you off your plans. I’m generally a flexible and open-ended sort of fellow, but I’ve been trying to incorporate more of the scheduling-type characteristics lately – it seems necessary to be goal-oriented right?

That's great advice regarding training on the pulldown machine. You've given me some hope.

I was venting a bit - sorry if that was a downer. Yeah, I need to work on being more positive and picking up a bit of running, yoga, etc.

I added a trace of my route, but it looks too small to make much geographical sense.
After the restaurant, I went through east Flushing and Auburndale and then headed south on Bell Blvd to Oakland Gardens. I headed west on 73rd Ave until it ended near Flushing-Corona Park. If you get lucky with the lights, you can pretty much cruise on 73rd between Bell and 164th St. The 1.5mi portion between Bell and 188th is particularly suitable for cranking it up. I like 73rd cuz it's not heavily trafficed and dangerous like Union Turnpike or the other boulevards of death. The bike lane helps.
I forgot about the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway just south of 73rd Ave. I rode on it once before and it is super cool! It used to be a tree-lined private road built by Vanderbilt so that he could drive with his buddies to Long Island. It now belongs to the parks Dept and they've converted it to a 2.5mi bike/pedestrian way that joins Cunningham and Alley Pond Parks.
It'd be great if they ever create a waterfront greenway in Queens. I agree that this borough isn't good for biking. I usually stick with riding along Vernon Blvd and 20th Ave since they mostly have T-intersections that are easy to cruise through.
