Workout
Workout Mania
I was a bum on Monday and Tuesday, so I hit the gym yesterday. 1 hour circuit training plus a 6 mile run. I was tired, but felt great :)
Workout
Reluctant Long Run
9 miles: my training schedule dictated that today was a 9-miler. I missed last week's long run because of the weather, but I had to make sure I ran this week. The problem, however, was that I went to bed late on Friday AND Saturday night, so I just couldn't get out of bed for my group run.
Workout
Saturday Run
Much to do on Saturday, so I knew I had to get my run in early, before things got going. I hit the pavement and got about a 40 minute (~4 miles) in before heading off to do things for the day--it felt good to get it done!
Workout
Friday Home Workout
I busted out my new WH Big Book of Exercises to do a little strength workout in addition to my 100 push up challenge day. It was the first time I'd used it, and I really like it! It's comprehensive, has lots of fun workouts, and is easy to use. I'll be using it more often to work strength training into my exercise regimen.
Workout
GREAT RUN: A Poem
I had new shoes on my feet, and my legs felt strong
So I hit the pavement with a song in my heart.
My feet were light, my spirits high
I ran so fast I swore I could fly!
I ran over hills, I ran through damp ditches
I skipped over puddles and through snow slush
My legs were strong, my confidence soared
I feel so great! my beating heart roared
Workout
Tired Run
I had ambitions for Wednesday. I was going to get up early, run 6 miles, go to yoga, and strength train. I managed the 6 miles and a little at home yoga, so not a fail by any means. I found myself simply too tired to accomplish my lofty goals.
The 6 mile run was slow and sorta tedious--but that can be good mental training too.
Workout
Commit to Fit--Week One
My gym is sponsoring a program called Commit to Fit, where we sign up for 10 weeks, set a goal, and then are offered two workout sessions a week. There are pre, mid, and post program assessments, which is pretty cool.
Workout
Sunday Run
I very nearly didn't run on Sunday. It was our long run day, but after walking around town (no driving in icky icy stuff) I wasn't really in the mood to go run. I should have gone out and ran 8 with the group, but I didn't. I couldn't just NOT run, though, so I ended up running in the icy snowy stuff for 30 minutes. It was great, and I'm glad I did it. :)

Ah, damn...didn't notice that part. Well, I'll still give it a shot! It'll definitely give me a good boost to NOT drink until the end...

The best shoes are the ones that fit your feet the best. I don't know if you have a Fleet Feet store near you, but the one where I live gives you advice on which type of shoe would be best for your feet, then lets you try on and run around in each pair to figure out which one fits best for you.
I have word Aisics and really like them; I'm now in a pair of Mizunos.
The point is that what works well for me might not work for you, so just go to a sports store and try on different shoes: move around in them and jog around (if you can) until you find a pair that you love.

Woohoo! This will be my first challenge down because I'm working out with my brother over Thanksgiving--we're running a 5k together. :)

Illiotibial band syndrome. It sucks if you ever get it--the illiotibial band runs from your hip down the outside of the leg to just past the knee. If you are foolish (like I was) and overtrain, it can start rubbing at the knee, causing discomfort and reducing the ability to run.

I'm excited for these challenges--I'm planning a raw food day too, even if it's not on my original list! :)
