Spirit Guides
In Punk Against Mouse, Love Wins
[We're midway through The Love Challenge, and yet the ranks of challengers are swelling! Wonderful. Gather round then, and quiet down in the back, as it's time to hear from another of our Spirit Guides. Tim Haft, creator of Punk Rope and old school New York fitness rebel, has a story to tell.... The Eds.]
I’m in big trouble. Oliver has asked me to write a meditation on how to train for love and I’m drawing a big-ass blank. I have that queasy feeling in my stomach—the kind you get on a job interview when you have no fucking idea what you’re talking about and haven’t a clue what the interviewer is asking either.
I methodically search my memory for all occurrences of love, skipping over what seems like a never-ending parade of failed romantic relationships. Oddly enough, what first comes to mind as worth sharing is an experience I had with a small grey mouse just over 25 years ago.
Workout
Skipping a 5K
We're getting ready for the Brooklyn Heart Walk in October only we'll be skipping it, not walking it. I was up to skipping 1.5 miles, but then strained my right calf so I'm taking it easy for the next week or so. In the meantime I head over to East River Park for sets of pull-ups. push-ups, planks, back extensions, and 1-legged squats. It's nothing fancy, but helps with general conditioning.

Why I have a tatt of my logo on my shoulder...
I like to share. That's my mission in life. I love sharing great music, wacky drills, fun bars, my passion for sports, great beer, out of this world pizza joints....and Punk Rope.

I find this story thoroughly depressing. Yes, we will buy anything that the fitness industry tells us we need to have. Jeez. What happened to the days of shorts and cutoff T-shirts. The funny thing is that "performance" fabrics often have drawbacks that good old cotton doesn't. For example, did you ever notice that hi-tech shirts smell really bad after a run?

Hey Frank! Glad to see you're still at it. One of these days we'll have to compare notes as I suspect our approach (Punk Rope's) to play is somewhat different and we can always learn from each other. Hop on.

Hi all. It's Tim...the mouse lover and creator of Punk Rope. We would LOVE (in the fullest sense of the word) for you to try Punk Rope some time. It truly is different and most people find it to be quite enjoyable. Hope to see you guys Monday night at Brooklyn Boulders.
