Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Ferris Bueller had the right idea. On Tuesday, Lululemon and Flywheel hosted the first annual Ditch Day, on the agenda? Escaping the city for Sag Harbor, a kick-ass Flywheel spinning class followed by a vinyasa yoga class at their studio out there before being spirited away to the Flywheel house for food, drinks and lounging by the pool all afternoon.

Waiting impatiently for Ditch Day.
Yesterday I went to a P57 intermediate class with Tanya for the first time in months, then I went and ran 3 miles afterwards since I really wanted to get in some cardio. I love Tanya, she teachs such a GREAT class and it is always so challenging. I felt good getting through it and still being able to run afterwards!

5 miles, two days in a row.
Not exciting to anyone but me, but 5 miles two days in a row is a big deal to me. I am totally more proud of it then I should be but it wasn't so long ago that 1 mile was a really big deal. I am totally going to make 7 by Sept!
Workout
When the non-runner decides to set a run goal..
I really am not a runner but for my birthday I decided to run 7 miles. 7 for 37. Now at this moment I could run 7 miles once, but I would be wrecked for at least a week, so my goal for the week of my birthday is that I have to run 7 miles twice. Right now I am at a solid 5. I have a month to make my goal. I totally can do this.
also did
3 x 10 pullups / pushups sets

The glorious day that started questionably....
So this morning my meeting got cancelled, but my day turned around pretty quickly after I drank my iced coffee and made it to the gym. My goal today was to run 5 miles, but I did 5.25 miles. WOO Hoo.....I so am going to make my 7 by 37! Then I headed back to Brooklyn to have with the fella. We went to the new waterfront park which is gorgous and had a picnic on the lawn.
Workout
There wasn't a damn thing exciting about my workout.
Oh yeah, I rebounded in the apartment away from home for 40 minutes while watching E! News. So ridiculous but at least I did something. Then I did 100 situps before the Kardasian stupidity came on and I called it a night and turned off the tv.

Workout
Sometimes my patterns suck.
When I run on the treadmill I make up a pattern for my run, often it is a 5 minute run, 1 minute sprint. Today I decided to run 1/2 mile then sprint for 1/4 mile for 3 miles. This was a terrible pattern. I knew after the first 1/4 that this was a bad choice but here is the thing, once I choose the pattern I have to finish it. So for 3.1 miles that is what I did and it was brutal.
Workout
Two days of having my ass kicked, once by me and once by Ariane...
Tonight I went to a Brooklyn Bridge Boot camp indoor class, it turned out to be the last class of one of the "Slim and Strong" sessions. Since it was the end session it was REALLY hard. Sweaty and intense but amazing and motivating too. Ariane ended with going through the room to talk about what everyone learned - it was nice to hear since I think it is really a great program.

When you are limping when you arrive at the gym you know you are in trouble...
Ok, I can admit it. Booty Slide kicked my ass. And my hamstrings. Oh and my inner thighs. The saddest fact is that as my fella was laughing at me whimpering everytime I stood up or leaned over, he said " You know with some pledge and some socks you could probably do it at home." To which I said, "I really do think that might work! I am totally going to try it!"
Workout
Booty Slide- A ridiculous name for a really hard workout
Flywheel a little while ago added a summer special class called Booty Slide - at the time, I looked at the website but just couldn't really picture what the workout would entail. According to their profile:

I don't love the new site either but after taking a month off I realized that I sort of missed the folks that have migrated over there.... it isn't as much fun but it is an awesome group of folks. I really hate all the goal/counting everything (it to me reminds me of what I hated about the million minutes challenge) but I choose a simple goal and will see if I can get into the swing of it again.
Plus, I miss the old handle!

I have been debating about doing this for awhile and found out that a the Brooklyn Acupunture Project (community/sliding scale awesomeness) has someone who does Rolfing on Sundays....

Actually, Pure Yoga does here in NYC, I only remember it because I thought it sounded so unappealing.... but at least it would seem to be on a mat, heat on a machine sounds like a deadly combo for a klutz like me!

Somehow this one annoys me less then the one yesterday that just sounded ridiculously stupid....
As far as offering alternative cross-training options, I do think it is a fine line before you get to just really expensive gym territory. Plus I have a sneaking suspision that Soul Cycle will charge 35 bucks for these too which is ridiculous because if you are going to spend that much you should go to a real Pilates studio and do a machines class!

I have read some great reviews of Tara's classes but have never made it to one, mostly because her shtick about yoga making you "slim and sexy" makes me crazy. I mean seriously?? That quote about becoming a 00 really opitimizes it perfectly. How is being a 00 your ideal end goal especially when it comes to YOGA? Arrrgh.

Ditch day was a kick-ass, rip-roaring day of spin, yoga and hanging by the pool in Sag Harbor put together by Lululemon and Flywheel. It was awesome.

I figured they wouldn't have classes and I am totally ok with that since I am pretty good these days at kicking my own ass. Plus that will free up some of my cash for the fun classes I love that aren't at the gym like Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp and Flywheel! That said, I think that classes are the reason lots of people will choose to stay at places like Crunch and Equinox but since I hate the classes at NYSC that isn't a reason for me to stay there at all!
