I'm back
Six months of little or no exercise is really bad for your body and things go to hell a lot faster than you'd realize. I haven't gained that much weight (maybe 3-4 lbs) and my body feels fundamentally different. In a really negative way that becomes a focal point in my day-to-day operations.
I got nothing
I went to the gym for the first time since May to disccover my membership was no more. Between thrice-weekly yoga, extensive bike riding and hockey I sort of had my workout bases covered. But the gym was paid for by my old company, and when I was laid off apparently my gym membership was as well.
I just did 60 more minutes of Cycling, Spinning, & Rowing!
I just did 90 more minutes of Yoga, Meditation, Chanting!
Breaking up is hard to do
So a few months ago, I bought myself a three month membership to one of the fanciest yoga places I had ever visited. And it was...interesting. Back when I had done a trial membership, they only had one location, so there was three classes going on at any given moment. It.was.awesome. But a few things changed....
I just did 100 more minutes of Cycling, Spinning, & Rowing!
I just did 30 more minutes of Running and Walking!

Running in heels
One mile, late to an interview, wearing heels and a suit. Made it just in the nick of time.
I should get double running points for that one.

I am sore, and that's a great thing
Do you ever get to the point where you move around so much or do so much of the same thing that it never really wears you out anymore? I don't really get sore all that often. It takes a lot to really make me wake up in the morning, stretch, and say, "Whoa! I'm feeling it" the day after. Plus, I bike so much and do yoga enough that my body is sort of "meh" on both.

You know what grinds my gears? A plead for sanity and decency from a NYC cyclist...
So, you could say I bike a lot these days. Like, to and fro, here and there, pretty much everywhere. And in the summer, novice cyclists come out in drones. And they really don't know the rules of the road or they think themselves exempt.

Life is a lot different when you're not stuck behind a desk
I don't have a job anymore. It makes everything...well...different.
For starters, I lost seven pounds the first week. I'm not sure it if was stress or just a lack of seamlessweb and more fresh food, but I've been trying to lose that weight for months with no success.
I bike everywhere now. Everywhere. It's pretty great.

A case of yoga-vu
I went for my second day of 3x3 at PURE for a class that billed itself as being core-centric. Okay then...I've seen what's going on down there and it's not pretty. This could work. The instructor looked vaguely familiar, but, as anyone who has done yoga in NYC, it's not uncommon for yoga instructors to teach at several different studios.

So we're well underway into the MMM and I'm 20 minutes away from breaking 5000 thanks to two half marathons, a century, many hockey games and bike commutes to work.
And my butt hurts.

bloody, bruised, burnt
A semi-epic weekend of sun burn, road burn, self-impaling and sprinting in high heat and humidity.

You can really hurt someone if you adjust them incorrectly and I've had to yell at more than one who have nearly hurt me. I wouldn't go to a personal trainer who wasn't certified, why would I want to go to a yoga instructor who isn't, either? I'm all for regulations, there are too many teachers out there who don't know what they are doing.

I thought I hated chanting and all the spiritual stuff until I did bikram, which just feels sort of..I don't know...drill sargent driven and totally souless - lights full blast, no acknowledgement of the work done or focus for the day.

I think I can do that. I do need to eat on the earlier side - like 11:30ish -- since I have a 3 pm hockey game and I don't wanna be barfy!

I'm sort of considering yogaworks but the one I went to (not soho), all the classes were sooooo slooooow. I don't mind occasional form emphasis but it was way excessive. Is that the case for the soho one as well?

I had to YELL at someone last week after they tried to adjust me, I said "ouch!" and they kept pushing. "Ouch!" is code word for "hey, you, stop it!"

You might have gotten the wrong type of shoes--there's SPD, eggbeaters, etc.... SPD are typically the type they have on spin bikes.

I always thought "taking a constitutional" meant "pooping" so I was very confused by the first sentence of this post...

i give this policy a thumbs up - it's not fair for people who want to book and have to wait around for no-shows, plus most places penalize you for cancellation/no-show (my yoga studio and bootcamp class do) so why wouldn't a gym?
