5 miler, getting really pumped for Saturday
Breezy 5 miles, getting prepared for Saturday. The weather is supposed to be perfect. Everything is coming together these last few days, and I'm getting very excited for my race!
Workout
fartlek session
Saturday is the Komen 5K, and I want so badly to achieve a PR in this race. I'm running in memory of my grandmother, and I'm even wearing a t-shirt with her picture on it so the photo of me crossing the finish line shows us both together. I remember when she would come to my soccer games when I was very little, and she loved to watch me run.
Workout
hike through the gorgeous Red Rock mountains
I was so happy to postpone my work today to the afternoon/evening, since I was able to go hiking early this morning with a friend of mine. We went on her favorite trail, which I'd never even been to before. I now know why it's her favorite. It was truly beautiful, with the Indian Paintbrush just starting to blossom and some really stunning purple blossoms on the trees lining t
Workout
yoga in the morning, running in the evening
I love Sundays! Plenty of time to laze about and still get in plenty of minutes for MMM. This morning, I went for a nice Slow Flow Yoga. With my whole effeminately macho 100 Mile Month, I haven't been doing as much yoga. I think that might be what's causing the pain in my knees. Today I was much tighter than usual, and I realized it had been over three weeks since

7 mile run + cupcakes = wonderful afternoon
As always seems to be the case with the treadmill, I run farther than I intend because something interesting was on the built-in TV. Today, it was the Penn Relays. Watching those athletes run was such an inspiration! Their strides and their speed was incredible. I didn't get to finish it since I had to shower before dinner plans, but I managed to find it on Tivo for late
Workout
treadmill run
After a nice lunch at the Springs Preserve with my mom, we were going to go for a walk through the gardens and trails but my knees were killing me from reasons I know not. So we went through the afternoon doing other fun things (jewelery shopping, cupcakes) and eventually made it home around 5:30pm. My knees were feeling a little more relaxed and had less angry pressure going on, so
Workout
rain, shine, and excellent company
I rested a few days since my knees are acting up, and today my sinuses said running was a no go. My brain and my body are fighting like maniacs! Finally, I went for a nearly day-long walk with my mom, with an hour lunch break. 4 hours of walking! We spent part of that time waiting on lines, so we did squats. Interestingly, we didn't get many stares for that one.&nb

who you gonna call?
I've never been known to always keep my mouth shut. I was running my 5 miles in the mostly empty gym downstairs and watching Cash Cab, when the players decided to make a mobile shout out. Ben turns around and says, "who you gonna call?" and I say, "Ghostbusters!" At that point, the two other guys in the room turn around but go back to their business. Once I finish the workout

weekend update
It wasn't that I was insanely busy through the weekend, I just stayed away from my computer a bit. Luckily, I can throw it all into one workout post since it's minutes this month. Woohoo!

what better way to spend friday evening than at the gym?
The gym in my building was absolutely empty on Friday evening. I was in heaven. I can't remember the last time I had it all to myself for my entire workout! I could grunt, sneeze, breathe heavily, fart, and dribble snot as much as I desired as I ran. Be as offended as you wish by the nonchalance with which I refer to bodily functions, but having the freedom to let it all

I've tried a few and right now I like Clif Shot Bloks. It's a solid gel, and they come in 33 calorie cubes. They are less messy than the goopy gel, and the flavors are pretty good. They also have some with caffiene and extra sodium.

I'll be crossing my fingers for you. It sounds like you've already got such healthy eating practices that converting to a diabetes-friendly diet won't be too difficult. And just like butwhat says, being in great shape will be a huge benefit to life going forward!

Oh shoot! I made two mistakes-I stopped recording after I completed the feat and I recorded cardio in hours instead of mins...I had 680 min (due to half training!). I'll do it right next time!
Congrats to all the finishers!!

It sounds like you're doing really great! Your race day adrenalin will totally carry you through the finish!
I would definitely recommend running outside a few times before the race, as it's a really different feeling from the treadmill. You don't want to run too fast at the beginning (and you might, the wind on your face sure does feel good!) and then be burned out for the last push.
