Workout
TRX Strength - Rawr
Yesterday's workout. Today: My hip flexors are achey and I'm off to pilates and chisel'd! eep.
Workout
Pilates
Felt off through the entire class :\ Couldn't get my mind/body to connect. Felt like I was yelling underwater. Blurp blurp blurp
"Plan" is to do a TRX session today in hopes of making me feel better about calling today a 'workout'
Class(es) Taken:
Pilates Body - Eden Kessler
Place:
Equinox - Back Bay Boston
Date:

Workout
TRX for the death
2 x Circuits of TRX Endurance circuit - level 2 progressions. The oblique suspended crunches nearly killed me. the one legged squats are my bane, and sprinter's starts -hurt-
maybe my bane is quads. I suppose I can deal with that. Starting to see some definition in my core.
Butterflied and shallot-leek-rosemary confit stuffed pork loin, wrapped in apples and honey glaze
Used Keller's Bouchon recipe for Onion Confit (p312) as a "rough" guide. By rough, I mean for technique notes (such as cutting with the grain of the onion rather than against 'to help the onions soften more quickly" also for knife work. (This is from the "Basic Preparations and Techniques" section, staples that one can make and store in your refrigerator.
Addicted to Food
Dinner tonight is: Butterflied and shallot/leek/rosemary confit stuffed pork loin roast glazed with honey and pinned with whisper thin local mcintosh apple slices. A side of blanched snow peas and a gorgeous epine and brillat savarin cheese.

"Do Not Stand on Bosu"
So what does every instructor and trainer make you do? Stand on the frakking bosu.
Six months ago, pilates kicked my ass. Now, pilates has become a great warmup for ab blast and chisel'd.

Kilt Me Dead (Equinox with Eden Kessler)
45m pilates class with Eden Kessler - the class used to be 1 hour, but instead of being easier, Eden made the class more challenging. If you aren't going to work as long, you are going to work harder. I love pilates. I love the grace, elegance, form and powerful control that you have with it. I find moments of it in rock climbing that beautiful breathe, move sweep dip drop exhale.

TRX // PIlates
Squats, pushups, crunches - the TRX is my tool for them all. No machines except my body. (The TRX tagline is "make your body your machine" appropos, non?)
This evening - Pilates! Need to figure out how to count all the crunches, roll-ups, bicycles, and other forms of torture we do. Yikes!

I rendered my own duck fat last evening so that I could use it this evening to sear a hangar steak that I bought from my local meat CSA :) With veggies that came out of the local foodshed root cellar. Boston has a great locavore community. Boston Organics has an awesome "Dogma Box" that sources all the produce for that week from <100m radius of Boston. It means a lot of root veggies in the winter. ergh. Today I was fiending for citrus and broke down and bought a meyer lemon and ate it. Peeled it while waiting for the bus, and ate it. (I saved the peel so that I can candy them for drinks, etc.) I feel very fortunate in living in Boston, and the eat wild feat pretty doable just from how I already eat. The killer for me is cheese. I love cheese. Cheese is by nature processed, aged, caved, among other things. (our local cheese monger is Formaggio Kitchen. They were so popular in NY and shipping so much they opened a booth-sized version at one of the markets there. Check them out. Fabulous amazing cheeses. Pave d'Affinois a triple creme is my current fave.)
Molecular Gastronomy does not play nice with this month. Ah well, it's only 12 meals.

Did a duck confit of local game and fat rendered from local ducks, thyme, rosemary. Did deglazed carrots and turnips from local farms and butter sourced locally :) Eating locally seems like it would be a hardship in New England in winter, but definitely not the case.

Awesome that you can get your SO to be supportive and go with you. To echo the above, it is also a case of different body styles/strengths. I'm scads more flexible than my SO so I'm more inclined to yoga and pilates classes. I also hate cardio so avoid the ellipticals and treadmills like the plague, though I'm thinking of using the New Year's challenge to get back to it :)
Maybe instead of working out together, joining the gym is more mutual motivation to get each other to go and take full advantage of the babysitter instead of 'you go, I'll stay home with the kid(s)' - having someone drag you along by the scruff of the neck is a fabulous thing.

Hah. This is like 2-3 pilates classes, maybe less. 3x15 quickly adds up, not to mention the ab blast series at equinox or whatnot.
