Workout
Dancing Taboo
It was a hot hot day. Add some French and Haitian music, a few good friends, and you have the great makings for a dancing workout.
Dancing in public is usually something I do while drinking, but the band Tabou Combo from Haiti provided just the right groove for some dancing at Central Park's Summerstage. It was a lot of fun. And rather sweaty.

Nap Time
My two and a half year old nephew is so over nap time. Or at least that is what he wants us to believe. So I guess I'm just going to have to start taking a walk in the park every afternoon that I babysit him, except for the rainy ones, of course. He conked out about 15 minutes after we left the apartment this afternoon, and two and a half hours later, he's still sleeping in his stroller.
Workout
The One-Arm Workout
I spent a good deal of time painting a friend's apartment, and I'm going to count that as a workout, mostly because it wore my butt out. But I'm calling it the one-arm workout since it's mostly my right arm (and especially the shoulder area) that felt the brunt of the work. I'd definitely say the stretching afterwards was necessary to prevent aches the next day.
Workout
Saved by the hill
I visited my dad in his nursing home while I was in Ohio this weekend, and I took him outside for a little walk. We weren't outside too long, partially because it was really muggy, but also because we got to a somewhat large hill in the neighborhood we were walking through, and Dad said "Enough." His reason was to save me from pushing him up the big hill.
Workout
The Flatlands of Hamilton, Ohio
Okay, so there were hills in these here parts, but much of my hour walk around my gram's neighborhood was seemingly totally flat. That's fine with me, since I was wearing heart-speckled AirWalks and carrying a giant umbrella in case it started raining. I had fun twirling the umbrella like a baton, and I marvelled over the lack of dog poo on the sidewalks.
Workout
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Workout
I reintroduced myself to Dr. Horrible a couple of nights ago. I love the moral ambiguity, the farce and the singing! So, Dr. Horrible served as the soundtrack to today's workout.
At the end of my walk/jog, I said, so no one in particular, "Please give me a second to catch my breath... Balls." Okay, I didn't really, but I totally should have.

Workout
The Quickie
I have decided that since working out makes me feel less like a large blob of an eating machine, I will make it a priority, even in the face of paper deadlines and final exam preparation. That might mean that the workout will be short and sweet.

Kicking ass and, well, not taking any names
I went back to the gym today, after WAY TOO LONG. I'm exhausted, that's all I know. As in, I got plenty of sleep last night, but I'm totally up for a nap right now. I walk/jogged in intervals, lifted some weights, did some kick boxing and finished up with yoga to lead into my stretch/cool down. Looking back on it, now I know why I'm so freaking tired.

Workout
Holy Underground Club, Girlfriend!
I haven't been quite so sweaty around quite so many people in a minute (as my friends from Harlem and the Bronx would say). And I haven't seen such a racially homogenous group of people dancing drunk since my cousin's wedding in Ohio.
Workout
Walking in the Park with Boys
After more than a week of no real exercise, I finally got my booty outside with some gym shoes on. I took my nephews to Central Park, but really it was for me, since the 2-yr-old was asleep most of the time. Finally, the cold weather went away for just that one day, and the park was full of people and sun. I really needed that.

Haha, that is hilarious! Although he shouldn't be questioning your sanity- he should be marveling at your ingenuity.

Wow. I don't think that could have been more coincidental. Life, huh? It's weird as shit sometimes.
I hate wearing bathing suits, mostly because having been obese for many years, my body has never fully recovered. So, as hard as it is to find them, I still choose to wear a one-piece. I own a bikini, which I wore two summers ago at the pool in my mom's neighborhood, but that was the last, and only, time. Isn't it annoying how the bikini has become the only accepted form of bathing suit for any "normal," "healthy" American woman? It's just wrong.

That may be why I did. Or a friend may have mentioned it on facebook. Either way, I'm totally happy I did.

Great blog, as usual.
And congrats on wearing shorts. I wore them for the first time (since I was 6 or something) without feeling self-conscious last summer. And since I'm about 15 lbs. heavier at the moment (hence my comment the other day that I look okay, but not good), I don't know if I'll be putting on those shorts anytime soon. Just like with everything outside of our comfort zones, repeated wearing should result in more comfort. Good luck!

That's awesome. The walking around the park at night part, not the mandatory extra credit/ missed opportunity part.
