Workout
BAD BIKING
30 minutes on the bike, but I think I didn't have the seat high enough --- my knees are killing me! Not good!
Workout
AN HOUR OF HATE
One hour on the stationary bike today. About every 15 minutes I started making excuses for why I didn't need to do a full hour, but by cracky I did it. I hate bikes that don't go anywhere. But it feels good to be working out again!
Workout
BONUS INJURY!
Aggravated nerve on the foot resulting in knee injury after I foolishly ran on it ... and the bonus injury? On Monday, racing around the house to get ready for a trip, I caught my little toe on the wheel of a suitcase and did a "wishbone". Sheared a chunk of the little piggy bone right off. Now I get to wear a post-up boot for the next 4-6 weeks and no running.
Workout
BAH, HUMBUG!
So, my triumphant return-to-running workout on the 22nd?
Hurt my knee. Have not been able to do anything since.
Yea, verily doth this suck!
However, today I did a weightlifting blast, half an hour of low weight, lots of reps, no rest between sets. Did some one-legged push-ups, too. I am determined to get back to it.
Workout
I AM NOT, IN FACT, DEAD.
Since my last post on July 14, I have either been
*packing
*singing opera
*driving from Des Moines to Minnesota
*teaching
*driving from Minnesota to Texas
*teaching, directing, administrating a three-week opera program
*cleaning up and unpacking after a summer on the road and getting ready for my trip to New York.
Workout
IN WHICH I AM CHASTISED FOR WORKING OUT
I actually got fussed at for my workout today! My friend Tracy was in town, and she texted me to go running. We got a late start and quickly realized that we had chosen to run on what was turning out to be the hottest day of the summer. Ack! Three miles up and down the hills, and ten minutes into it my face felt like a furnace. It was the slowest, hardest run I've every done.
I just did 60 more minutes of Running and Walking!
Workout
CIRCUIT TRAINING AND THE RUNNIN' AND HOLLERIN' WORKOUT
I had morning appointments, so I couldn't get the workout in first thing, and this led to procrastination. But I did manage to get it in! Power 90 Sculpt 3/4 plus 100 crunches. I like doing circuit training on a show day because it pumps me up without tiring me out.
I just did 45 more minutes of Weightlifting, Circuit Training & CrossFit!
Workout
Post-dancing cardio whoopee
In between baking and decorating a fabulous three-chocolate birthday cake for my friend Elden, I got in a good cardio session plus 200 crunches. I was surprised not to be more tired after Sunday's late night of partying, but my legs weren't even sore from all the dancing in high heels.

DIRTY DANCING IN FOUR INCH HEELS
So, the apprentices here at the summer festival threw a "Jersey Shore" party at a local bar, and everybody came decked out as their favorite character. I've never watched the show, but I knew enough to wear my shortest, lowest cut dress, highest heels, and tallest hair; plus I bought some base makeup about four shades too dark and gave myself an instant "tan".

The first one I did, there were port-a-potties. The last one, none. So YMMV. But with any luck, you'll be sweating so much you won't need the facilities. Don't be nervous --- have fun! Good luck!

Llaves, at the moment I'm out here in the middle of the cornfields; smalltown Iowa. But if you ever pass through Indianola, give Ann Comstock a call. She's terrif!

I made this today, Aarona, and had some to help get hydrated for my show tonight. It's delicious!

Jayzus, a nine-year-old with a six-pack that would be the envy of many a grown man! I'm not sure whether to be scared or just in awe.

Prairieportia, I've been doing the Power 90 workouts (Tony Horton, same guy who does P90X). The cardio involves a long section of jumping jacks, running in place, "runner's lunges" which consists of switching your feet back and forth behind you like you're on skis while moving your arms, "cross-hops" (another ski-type jump), and various other sorts of running-jumping combinations. Basically, you bounce up and down like a bunny rabbit on speed. You do the whole series three times in a row without stopping.
However, when I can get through the whole workout without stopping, I TOTALLY feel like a rock star! A badass rock star, Sadie! ;)

What an awesome way to treat and motivate yourself during a run! I'm with you: I like running to music. I mostly run trails, so I'm not quite as worried about road hazards, though I keep a sharp eye out. And I find that I zone out more when I don't have music than when I do. So keep rockin' and runnin', my friend!

Thanks, Liz, but limping was a figure of speech meant to show how freakin' pathetic I am. I'm not actually limping. Yet. ;)

That seems like a ridiculous price increase, but my guess is that most of the gyms have quite literally been stealing from the artists by playing without paying. Music is very easy to steal. People don't want to be without it, but they don't want to pay for it either. Too bad, everyone suffers in the end.

I'm confused. Does May 15 not count towards the original 30 days of the challenge? I tried to log some minutes and it kept saying "invalid challenge". I ran my 10K this morning and I want my minutes to count, dammit! At times that was the only thing that kept me going! ;)

My prescription as a pro opera singer: lemon ginger tea and pineapple juice (not necessarily taken together, but you could). Ginger and pineapple are both natural anti-inflammatories AND digestive aids. The pineapple juice is particularly great for immediate throat relief. For that matter, you can just eat some fresh pineapple. Yum! Feel better.
