1st workout of 2010- Catch up Post
After spending most of Friday January 1st in a lazy, hazy state, did a self-prescribed cardio & strength training routine to kick off the new year..

4 - 7pm Dancing is the New Black
Felt very good to move my body this morning after a week of a pseudo-cold and very, very little energy. Did an hour of strength training, mixed in with some cardio intervals, followed by some dancing (with vodka) at Get Your Dance On at Brooklyn Bowl. Afternoon dance parties are fabulous.

Gratuitous Sexy Photos of Hollywood Stars in Fitness Magazines
The September issue of Men's Fitness features semi-naked photos of Taraji P. Henson, of Benjamin Button and I Can Do Bad All By Myself fame. Being a curious woman, I clicked through. There are also sexy pictures of Rachel McAdams and Rachel Nichols -- all three listed under the label "Team Gorgeous." The galleries on the site are very slow, and the pictures not that sexy. On the upside, I did learn how to use sandbags to "build brute power," and about the virtues of "neutral grip bench pressing," and also some tips for grilling the "perfect steak."

Upside Down
I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed. ~Michael Jordan

Beware the Wii Knee
Nintendo has sold 6.5 million Wii Fit kits in the last year. That means, across the country, there are roughly 13 million terrified rotator cuffs -- to say nothing of the millions of truly freaked out ab muscles. Andrew Das has the tragi-comic story of Wii injuries in yesterday's Times: "Call it Wii Shoulder. Or Wii Knee. If there is an epidemic of anything, it probably falls under a broader label: Nintendinitis."

Exercise vs. Breast Cancer
Women who exercise beat breast cancer far more often than those that don't. Sort of common sense, but the numbers from a new study (via Reuters) are surprising:
More...Among 1,231 women with breast cancer who were followed for a minimum of 8.3 years, those who obtained about 4 hours or more of weekly moderate-intensity recreational activity over their lifetime had a 44 percent lower risk of death from breast cancer
