<p>Yesterday we reported that SoulCycle was expanding its offerings with <a href="http://blog.socialworkout.com/2010/09/23/souldance-may-or-may-not-involve-soulcycles" target="_blank">SoulDance</a>, a class designed to "ignite your inner SEXY SOUL! ...[with] everything from basic ballet to simmering chair routines." Unclear whether or not those simmering chair routines would be performed on a bike seat... But today we got another email from SoulCycle, this one introducing "Soul Pilates," and this one made it very clear: "This class is taught entirely OFF the bike." So it's really just Pilates, taught at SoulCycle, which I guess is what makes it "Soul Pilates." Which makes you wonder, when a spin studio starts offering lots of different fitness classes, does it just become a gym, but more expensive? Or is this just a nice way to give spinners some cross training? Debate and discuss. (I think it might be Option A, but maybe that's just me being mean). </p>

<p>Then working on the 20 pull up challenge. Is it a really bad sign that I can barely even do the negative pull-ups in week -2? I've been working on the pull-up machine with a 30 lb counter weight. Kinda frustrating to have to start there, but I'm determined to make it to 20 pullups. Even if it takes me til the end of the year.</p>

<p>How much do people love spinning? Or maybe the better question is, how much do people who love spinning love the Clintons? So much that Soul Cycle's hour long <a href="http://blog.socialworkout.com/2010/08/26/ride-chelsea-and-bill-saturday" target="_blank">ride with Bill and Chelsea</a> this weekend raised more than a $100,000 for the Clinton Foundation Haiti Fund. Very nice. And also intriguing. I've developed a theory: I think it has something to do with spandex. Spandex is not a conservative fabric. The more spandex you wear, the more liberal you are. Spinning and its full body spandex...you do the math.</p>

<p>I took Ryan Murray's spin class on Monday, it was FANTASTIC.. challenging, great playlist... and I just love how he motivates everyone. I was going so fast, during the sprints, I could not believe that I was doing 145 RPM, he had us sprint for 30 secs, I think.. and i was able to do it... He is also very helpful and compassionate. He gets off the bike to help folks..</p>

<p>Well it wasn't a completely horrible weekend, but there's a lot of crap going on and it felt so great to workout and just forget about everything else for awhile. I lifted for 20 min, 45 min spin, and a 25 min core class. It was super intense but I loved it. Good way to start the week.</p>

<p>I exercise, and I do it a lot. I am not one of those people who exercises to “de-stress.” Screw de-stressing, I want my workouts to have meaning, a purpose, they're part of a grand scheme that culminates in me one day standing somewhere, wearing spandex and winning an award. </p>
<p>So I exercise for goals — fitness goals, personal record goals, and more oft than I’d like to admit, skinny jeans goals. But this all changed for me in the last few weeks.</p>

<p>On yet another hot hot day, 45 min spin class, 25 min abs, and my friend Katie made her glorious return to working out and got me to lift afterwards. It was a great workout. On the negative side, it's so ridiculously hot in my apt I had to buy some ice cream to eat to cool off! It's really tasty though and I managed to stick to one portion. <p>It was not easy to motivate today. I spent the weekend at home with the Husband, doing largely very little, we leave for ComicCon in a week, and our schedules have been extra hectic lately, so the quiet time was extra nice. So going to work was difficult. Going to the gym after falling asleep on the bus home was harder. Sophie made it damn near impossible.</p>
