YogaWorks Soho: Fish or Fowl? YogaWorks Soho, which opened this summer, is a "yoga gym," or perhaps a gymlike yoga studio. Or something. It's a members-only studio. Meaning, like a gym, you pay a monthly fee ($110) and you can come as much as you want. And it's huge: You've got two floors, three studios, a shop area, little rest stations where you can check your email, and a proper locker room with showers, towels, and a sauna. Back in September Augustina Groop wrote about the gorgeous bamboo floors and all the well-chosen amenities. I couldn't agree more. Lovely. But, true confession: It all left me feeling cold....
Yoga Soundscape Went to a 2-hour donation yoga class at Yogaworks Soho with awesome live musicians and a fire ritual. Although it was so packed when I got there I couldn't set up near my friends :-( and was stuck behind a pillar, I quickly got over it and devised ways to adjust my poses around it.
life lessons from broadway drag queens, publicists & free yoga Since I'm on the cusp of turning 30 (9 days!), I'm really big into life lessons right now. Last night I saw La Cage on Broadway. I sobbed during the first act finale when the star drag queen ripped off his wig while singing, "Life's not worth a damn until you can shout, 'Hey World, I am what I am!"
Stronger! I took Sherman's class and it was awesome as always. You know it is a really good class when you are so into the practice that you don't even care that you are 3 inches away from you on all sides.
Yoga of the ever shifting mats My first class back with Sherman on Monday night. It had been a couple of weeks since the sub class, which wasn't Sherman's fault but I just hadn't been to one of his classes since that night. It was nice to be back but the class was held in the little room and was packed. So even though I was there early, I steadly got moved further and further back in the room.
Friday Evening Yogaworks Several of the sales guys from Flavorpill, with whom we share offices, had decided to go to Yogaworks Soho. S. is a big yogi, of couse, and it was to be the first class for T., who once played football. I tagged along. Keith was teaching, and the room was crowded. It was a beginners class, and Keith seems particularly good with beginners.
Pilates workout God, I really am not into Pilates mat class sometimes. I am glad I went so I didn't have to think about working out for the rest of the day but I just wasn't into class this morning.
Pilates workout Loved class this morning because I got so many corrections/assistance.... for me that always makes a class so much better! Yay managing to get my butt out of bed this morning since I really debated blowing it off...
Pilates workout It was cool. I was glad I went.
The Punk'd version of a yoga class. On Friday night, I went to the worst yoga class I have ever been to. In TEN years of yoga, I have never been to a class where either 1/2 the class leaves in the middle OR the teacher almost gets into a fist fight with a student.
Lady Gaga during yoga? Oh yeah. And Journey, too. I love Sherman's class.
Rocking the Center I am so happy Sadie was back, I missed her class last week, for me it is so calming while still kicking my ass. That said, damn crow. We did it what seemed like a million times and each time it was really flightless and sad, however, I am going to get it one of these days.
Iyengar Yoga, because moving fast wasn't an option Iyengar Yoga because after two days of Sherman, I was too sore to do anything else. It was a good stretchy class.
For what is normally a craptacular day, today was awesome. Ok, so I hate Valentine's day, to me it always seems like a day that is desinged to make everyone feel bad. If you are in a relationship, everything is fraught with meaning and weight that it really, really shouldn't be and well if you are single somehow you are made to feel totally degected. Insane.
Sardine Yoga with Sherman We were in the little room today, which is bad considering at Sherman's class there are always at least 40 of us. We were squished in like little sardines on our mats and at one point I thought the fella next to me was going to take me out, but lucky there wasn't any keeling over in the class.
Love Soul: yoga retreat, baby! This morning I woke up and didn't have to go to work. Personal day of the mental health variety. It took all my willpower to get my butt out of bed, but I managed. I grabbed my yoga mat and trekked over to YogaWorks SoHo to meet up with my coworker, SeryiStar for our makeshift yoga retreat. It's n
Oh happy day. Ok, I admit it, I LOVE Yogaworks. After going back to P57 yesterday were no smiled at each other and everyone sized up the competition in class, I loved being at YW today. Not only did one person actually introduce himself (in a totally non-creepy way) but everyone smiled and nodded hello as they passed. It is just a good vibe. It was also a great class. Power Yoga with Sherman.
Midday Yoga Sprint Rushing out from SW HQ, I heard my named called and it was Molly R., who I haven't seen in ages. But I couldn't chat as I was late to yoga. She smiled. THen I managed to run right by the YW entrance, and had to backtrack a few times, getting more and more agitated. I ended arriving post initial OMs, but still in time for sun salutations. The class was full, with the normal mix of urban yogis.
A Kick Asana class and news of a free Ride the Zone class! This was an awesome day. My friend came and joined me for my favorite yoga class, Sadie's awesome Tuesday night class which made my favorite class even better. And today I got an email from Ride the Zone that if I commented on her article on Social Workout that I would get a free class! YAY!!!! I can't wait to cash that in!
Sculptworks I took a good class tonight. It felt good, I was glad I went....but my favorite part was hanging out with my teachers 3 year old son before class. A good spaceman and fort building story is a nice way to spend some time! :)
Cult of Sherman Ok, second class with Sherman today at Yogaworks and it was awesome. I wasn't really into the first class, I thought it was good but not obsessive worthy. Today though I see why he has such a following.... I will definately be back again. The class was PACKED but nobody took anyone else out which is really all I ask.
