long workout to kick off the long weekend 30 min of interval runs on the treadmill more work on the 20 pull up challenge weight training random yoga class I wrote more extensively on the new socialworkout site. I don't want to double blog, but I set this goal to workout at least 200 days during 2010 so I don't want to lose my running total.
I don't need bikram yoga Yoga class today. The room was pretty warm, and I was literally dripping in sweat. All over. There's no point fighting it. It's 90 something degrees, it's inevitable. Screw bikram, I bring the sweat anyway.
was camping all weekend, now back to the grind 45 min spin class 20 min core Then working on the 20 pull up challenge. Is it a really bad sign that I can barely even do the negative pull-ups in week -2? I've been working on the pull-up machine with a 30 lb counter weight. Kinda frustrating to have to start there, but I'm determined to make it to 20 pullups. Even if it takes me til the end of the year.
I had a sneaking suspicion this would be true... Today is day 1 of the 20 pull-up challenge. First step is obviously assessing how many pull-ups you can do. I haven't even attempted a pull-up since middle school, and I couldn't do any then, so I figured I'd still be at zero. I was absolutely correct. That puts me in the elite group who gets to start at week -2 as opposed to week 1! Anyways, week -2 basically just
oooommm Great very small yoga class today. It was challenging but felt really good. There was lots of stretching and hip opening, and at the end we did an amazing 10 min chest and hip opening resorative pose. It felt really good and got me nice and centered. All in preparation for. ..
i attempted a "legit" interval workout I guess I was successful in that I completed it and I wound up ridiculously sweaty and tired. It was nothing fancy. Just 30 min on the treadmill, alternating 1 min sprints and 1 min walking. I started the sprints at 7.5 min miles and worked down to 6.5 min miles. The walking was simply as slow as I had to go to recover. I was dying by the end, but I felt like I got
crappy weekend i will leave you in the dust Well it wasn't a completely horrible weekend, but there's a lot of crap going on and it felt so great to workout and just forget about everything else for awhile. I lifted for 20 min, 45 min spin, and a 25 min core class. It was super intense but I loved it. Good way to start the week.
the good sub is leaving :( generally i'm one of those stubborn ppl who don't enjoy subs and just want my regular teachers to come to class. however, for the last 6 weeks, i've had a sub in my wed yoga class. he's been great (even though he called me the wrong name several times). i loved the way he ended class today. just a simple "thank you for honoring me with your practice." i'll miss him
i want sookie's abs Very fun busy weekend. I had a friend's engagment party in Jersey on sat and friends in town all weekend. There was lots of food and drinking involved. It felt so great to be back in the gym today. I lifted, went to spinning and an abs class. Does anyone else watch True Blood? Sookie is seriously my body motivation at the moment. She is slamming!
trying to stay centered, but damn that's annoying Went to yoga tonight. It was a great class, except for these 3 girls who set up in the back and were seriously whispering and giggling the WHOLE time. Even in savasana! I know the point is to tune out distractions, but seriously i wanted to throw something at them. Other than that, good class.
spin and core Had a sub in spin yesterday. I've had her before and she's really great, but completely technologically challenged. Literally every time I've taken her class, she's either broken her ipod, her headset, the cord, something. Her class is a real ass kicker though so it's ok. After was core, also good. Not as fun as my regular teacher's class, but we did lots of planks
Is everyone on vacation this week? My gym was pretty empty today. Spin class had maybe 10 people in it, and my abs class was only 2 people! I actually loved it. Usually I feel like my teacher slows the class down to accommodate everyone, but since there was so few people she really pushed us. The abs class was like working with a personal trainer. We did a bunch of ab exercises on the fitness ball a
yogaaa After two nights of eating out and drinking with friends, I made it back to the gym for a quick 60 min yoga class. The class was hot and I was dripping sweat, but it was a great class. When I first started practicing with this particular instructor, I didn't enjoy it, but I've been converted. Her classes are challenging and she always discusses a lot of wonderful yoga philosop
I need to befriend someone with a pool On yet another hot hot day, 45 min spin class, 25 min abs, and my friend Katie made her glorious return to working out and got me to lift afterwards. It was a great workout. On the negative side, it's so ridiculously hot in my apt I had to buy some ice cream to eat to cool off! It's really tasty though and I managed to stick to one portion. Vanilla fudge swirl from Stony
almost crapped out but worked out instead I was THIS close to skipping my workout but decided to shape up and go to pilates. This class is getting marginally easier, but it's still ridiculously intense. My legs and abs are shaking the whole time and I'll be sore tomorrow, but good sore.
Not drunk or lazy yoga, but hungover yoga Hungover yoga on a Wed. I'm just glad I didn't crap out and stay home! My regular wed teacher is on vacation the next 5 weeks, so we had a sub. I actually really liked him! He was great with correcting alignment and breaking down moves. Thanks to him, I did flying crow. Had issues with the balancing poses, partially because they are my weakness and partially
spinning away from a crappy day Bad day at work. Remedy was 45 min spin class and 25 min of core. It was really intense, but felt really good.
I did an assisted handstand today! I went to yoga and pilates today. Yoga was great, in spite of the ridiculous amount of sweat coming out of my body. My mat was a slippery mess. We worked in groups of 3 to do assisted handstands and I did one! One of my partners was very good and gave me a lot of great tips. He helped me get up but once I was up he had a lot of helpful pointers.
I need a recommendation! Also, my yoga class today... One of my regular yoga instructors is gone for the rest of the summer so we had a sub today. He was good, although he generally teaches some class called "yoxing", which is a yoga/boxing blend. It sounds like a counter-intuitive blend to me, but I liked his class today overall. Today definitely had the "yoga as a workout" feel. He even peppered in some moves he says he&n
Sometimes the AC is enough motivation to get to the gym I had a really relaxing long weekend and although I did lots of walking, there were no official workouts til Monday night. For lack of anything else to do, I went to 3 classes: yoga, spinning and core. It was great to spend so much time at the gym, not least of which to take advantage of the AC. It has been HOT in nyc.
