Jump Rope and Misc. Jumped for 20 minutes, avoiding the elliptical, and then did pushups, situps, pullups, dips, etc.
Late Rope Jumping Didn't get to the gym until ten-after-nine. PEA. EM. That's late to start sweating, and I blame my compulsive, procrastinatory inability to separate from desk at the end of the day in hopes that I'll suddenly be granted divine clarity and complete all of the outstanding things on my To Do lists. But whatever.
On Pilates and Hip Circles My question: How many situps, if any, is a Pilates class worth toward's one's Feralicious goals? (Can one even count situps done in a class towards one's feat goals?) My answer: You can count situps (or pushups) from a class, but they must be real, identifiable situps. No "situp equivalents," as in: "30 seconds of Pilates teasers is equivalent to 10 situps." No, that's a slippery slope.
Lunchtime Pilates Kristen McGee and Equinox Soho. I found the last spot in the corner, and it was all very graceful, not excruciatingly hard, and ideal for the midday time slot. While we were doing some form of core clenching exercise, a woman behind me let out a significant fart. This caused the tatoo'd man in tights next to me to start giggling uncontrollably, along with his neighbor.
Friday Funky Sexy with James Ervin I've been ranting about James of late. What amazes me about him is the expressiveness of his body. He can say things with little flips of shoulder or foot, that I can appreciate, but never replicate. He's fluent, I'm mute.
Your Bells Kicked My Butt Oh Steve, swinging your bells kicked my butt ! (Rob if you are reading this, I plead innocence!)
Equinox in My Socks The beauty of the Jan. Plan is (was) that you could go to happy hour, and then still hit the gym at 8:45PM. Amazing! That's what I did (last) Thursday. I had forgotten my sneakers, so I did the elliptical in socks for 20-plus minutes, some of which involved watching The Office (subtitled). Getting off, I thought (again) that watching TV really compromises a workout.
Superbowl Sunday Yoga Stephanie Culen's class was crowded for Superbowl day. Mostly women. She's got a gift for the talking, steady, counting almost all the breaths, and firm. She doesn't stop the flow to do demonstrations. She did give me a good correction. It's a different style, and I like it. I'm not a fan of the demos I guess. Sometimes I suspect the teacher of showing off.
Equinox with Daniel Went late to Equinox, post happy hour, and got an hour in, more or less. Elliptical for 30 minutes, some of which involved zoning out and watching Seton Hall beat Louisville. Then ran into Daniel, and we talked and did push ups and situps; and we also noticed a guy doing many, many pull ups, in an L position. Then vertical pushups.
Friday Evenings with James Ervin If body language were actually a language, then James Ervin is fluent — and I'm the stuttering American tourist in a Paris bistro struggling to order a beer. The man can say things with the slightest twitch of his chest, or turn of his foot, or tilt of the James Ervin head, that are inaccessible to tall, white, male bloggers.
A Great Instructor Does Not a Great Class Make Sadly, I found that out the hard way. Had an instructor sub for my usual class and he was sooooooo great!! Great workout, he was energizing, music was pumping - just great.
non-exciting workout just did a 25 minute interval set on the treadmill this morning. nothing crazy, but thought it was important to get warm and get my mind set for what will definitely be a crazy-busy week at the studio!
Mini Workout Leave office at 6:10. Arrive gym 6:15. Hit mat at 6:25. Begin series of sun salutations, pushups, and situps. Complete 5 or six of the first, 75 of the second, and 90 of the last. Stretch minorly. Head back to locker, barefoot: 6:48. Shower and change. Leave gym 7:00pm. Arrive dinner 7:08. Totally worth it.
Spinno with Mannequin Inspired by training with Andy, I did a very efficient, very simple 45 minute lunchtime workout. 20 mins on the spin bike while watching the movie Mannequin. I felt guilty, but, man, watching a movie does take your mind off the pain. But it also changes, qualitatively, the experience. Your not communing with your body, you're ignoring it. It's like hiring a nanny to raise your kids.
= knocks My third and final trial day at the Equinox was a short and sweet quickie morning spin class w/ my favorite rebounder, Gregg Cook. But first the club. Even if Crosby Street can hardly be called a secret, it still is such a breath of fresh air to amble down it to the gym entrance on the corner of Prince St rather than brave Broadway. That alone scores calmness and relaxation points.
Sunday Solo Slipped over to Equi Soho for 5PM yoga, but was late by a few minutes and the crowd was daunting. Instead, went in my ridiculous yoga outfit onto elliptical; and then to the mat for pushups and situps. And then some squats and a set of reps on the Power Plates gizmo that Elizabeth told me about.
Lunchtime Workout Victory! I made it out of the office to catch Pilates at 1PM. Snuck in a few minutes late, but whatever. Kristen McGee is a pro. Nothing dramatic, or perhaps stunningly inspirational, but that's not necessarily what you're looking for in a one hour lunchtime workout. Also, that's not necessarily the style of Pilates. Unlike yoga, there is no sermon, or personal confession. It's about the exercises.
Derek Beres Redux... This time he focused on balance poses. Lot's of moving from high lunge into warrior three into half moon back into high lunge. He spoke again, but don't recall exactly what, but it was fine. After, I stood in the steam room and felt light headed.
Powerflow Yoga with a Fine Sub Here's what I remember: She was a sub, and she started by asking us all to say our names, which, later in the class, she actually remembered. That's unusual, and perhaps a bit impractical, but it was nice. She had confidence, and made the class hers. So, I also remember this: She was very good.
