victory You wrote, we like ~ the Eds. I was not last. I paused once and only briefly at the water table at mile 3. I ran through the sprinklers. I sprinted the last 1/8 mile. I ate the apple and drank the Gatorade offered at the finish line. I walked around Bethesda fountain afterwards, taking in the sounds of the crowd, the cowbells, the saxophone player, the choir under the stairway bridge, the lone violist. I could not wipe that smile off my face for anything. I was not a runner. And then I was.
A Real Bike! My roomie recently bought a new fancy bike, so now she has two. We took both bikes to Central Park so I could try riding the fancy one without cars around. I cannot remember the last time I was on a real bicycle. I was afraid I was going to fall off, but luckily those hours upon hours of spin class were somewhat useful.
Hill Running 50 minute run covering 5 miles in total with wayyy too many repeats on hills.
Central Park Boot Camp This has been the week of internet people coming to life. Earlier this week, I signed up for a free boot camp in Central Park led by a fitness instructor whose blog I read. I know, right? Central Park. Boot camp. FREE.
10,000 people, waiting in line Literally, the line wouldn't end. It makes sense with so many people there would be a line, but I didn't think of it that way beforehand. The line was fun. 7:00 passed. Volunteers shouted not to worry, the yoga wouldn't start before at least 7:30. When we finally saw the lawn but weren't quite there yet, the rain came. All the yogis started running, taking lots of extra mats with them.
Delinquent Minute Poster Social Workout, I'm sorry.
Dancing Taboo It was a hot hot day. Add some French and Haitian music, a few good friends, and you have the great makings for a dancing workout. Dancing in public is usually something I do while drinking, but the band Tabou Combo from Haiti provided just the right groove for some dancing at Central Park's Summerstage. It was a lot of fun. And rather sweaty.
Finished a 5k while hungover and did not die I ran the jp morgan corporate challenge last week. I was hungover and had slept about 2 hours the night before. Despite that disaster, I finished without dying and only did about 5 min worse than last year. And to show how little I learned, afterward I joined my friend at her company's post-race happy hour for open bar and free food. I only had 2 beers though so that's a
My goal was to finish in an hour. But I made it in 56:54! Race day! 5-mile Fathers Day race in Central Park. So many people! It was a short race, but it was so hot I couldn't wait for it to be over. Really happy with my time, just wish I had walked less. Next time.
still not a runner Today my JackRabbit group met in Central Park to prepare for our race. Thanx to the Sunday subway changes, there was no express train in Brooklyn I had to take the local and switch to another train which I waited 20 minutes for. It took over an hour to get to Central Park and the group already took off. But I had already done this run in the winter.
race! I ran the Japan Day 4 mile NYRR race this morning and I'm so happy I did. I love races. Race, race, race, race, race, race, race. Fun times. I did 4 miles in 46 minutes. I didn't hit my goal (4 miles in 44 minutes) but I'm still happy with it. It was so hot, so crowded, and so fun. There were sprinklers and other cooling devices. Hooray.
Crowd Mentality - Celebrate National Running Day My friend and I ran with Lululemon today. My competitive nature serves me well because I pushed myself beyond what I would ever do on my own. We ran out & backs, which I never heard of but needless to say, after sitting at work all day, presented a huge challenge to my lazy legs.
4.7 miles of seeing NYC again I walked from 34th st and 8th ave to Morningside. I lived in New York for 20 odd years and I have never seen the fictional (to me atleast) Central Park Zoo, I always thought it was a made up notion in Madagascar, that was until Monday. Now I know its real. I also hung out at two of my secret spots. Then walked home in the rain. It was great!
Brisk walk to and from Lululemon Lincoln Square Down through Central Park, back up Columbus Avenue.
Remembering a great time while forgetting a horrible day. Today was a day that seemed to start off ok. There was a lack of sleep but I made it in to work early and everything got done in a timely fashion. I am not sure if when the energy shift occurred but by the end of the day I was fried. Usually this would have been a redbull and chocolate emergency but the day was nice and the cool breeze made it a great day for a jog.
