Books are good.

Kushi, Michio, with Alex Jack (1994). The Book of Macrobiotics. Japan Publications.

I love this one because it is comprehensive, gives ALL kinds of tips, and has some tasty (as tasty as you can get) recipes.

The Ethics of What We Eat

I read Lance Armstrong's book - It's not about the bike.  I thought it was a great book.  I understand that it was written in 2000 or 2001 and a lot may have changed since then (I'm pretty sure him and his wife have divorced and no longer like each other since then) but whatever.  The book really looked into what he went through with his cancer treatment and his struggles to get back in shape and then to race.  I really recomend this book for anybody attempting any sort of endurance event or who wants a different look at life.

I read Dean Karnazes's Ultra Marathon Man - this guy is insane, but quite motivating. Good for anyone who runs or wants to start running.

Not a GREAT health-related book, however--and not even a book, but I bought it at a bookstore--I did share the PLAYGROUND PUMP set of cards with one of my fitness instructors and she got some good ideas off them.

Currently reading "Eating in the Light of the Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationship With Food Through Myths, Metaphors and Storytelling." By Dr. Anita Johnson. I'm enjoying this book. Food has played a very important role in my life and in getting healthy, eating better and exercising it raises a lot of emotional stuff to give up and/or change my relationship to food so that I'm more powerful as a human being.  This book is very interesting in looking at that.  I find it empowering and the storys, myths, folklore tales that are used to bring out different ideas is fun.  I like that the book does not try to place blame on anyone, but rather takes a look at how the we have developed as women, and offers suggestions for how we may want to develop ourselves to be more empowered and less dependent on food for spiritual and emotional comfort (e.g.)

Everything You Need To Know About Fat Loss... By Chris Aceto

Physiology of Weight Loss, calories, carbs, protein, fats, fat storing foods, hormones, drugs, diets, exercise

It really is a numbers game.  Are you burning more calories than your taking in if you want to lose weight? Are you eating the right amount of fat, protein and carbs for your body?

I'm not a huge math/science girl, but found this book to be really straight-forward and helpful!

Don't read 'Food Bites.' It was written by a professor's freshman assistant. Seriously.

Random: 'arachibutyrophobia' is the fear of peanut butter.

Are those fighting words I see above me?

I read Soccer in the Sun and the Shadows, and started a few others but haven't yet finished, including The Omnivores Dilemma.  OH! And Lances' latest book of course.  He had a signing in Santa Barbara when I was there.
