Welcome to Eat.Sweat.Blog!
October 1st - 31st. Our latest experiment in massive collective healthiness.
So glad you're here. Eat.Sweat.Blog is the fourth Social Workout challenge, and the first ever focused on healthy eating. Our mission, as always, is to fight back against the urban grind — the overworking and undersleeping, the serial restauranting, heavy cocktailing, and missed gym dates, not to mention the creeping cigarette or caffeine habits.
The city is like a giant buffet: Fabulous, and easy to abuse. Staying in touch with body and mind is absolutely possible, but it requires some effort, and vigilance. We've found that setting goals helps a lot, as does a bit of group energy and inspiration. We've got your back. Here's how it works:
STEP I
Join Social Workout, (if you haven't already.) It's absolutely free, entirely safe, and we'll give you a nifty personal page complete with workout tracking capabilities.
STEP II
Sign up for the challenge. This means you're committing to getting exercise on at least 20 days in October, AND to completing 10 of our 22 feats of healthy eating. (See list at right.) Piece of cake!
STEP III
Track your progress by "blogging" your workouts. (For simple instructions on how to create a "workout post," and examples, see here.) To "achieve" a feat, you simply go to that feat page, and click "Feat Accompli!" Very satisfying. Want to see how you're doing relative to everyone else? Check out the challenge Stats page.
STEP IV
Feel great, look amazing, win prizes, and save the world! Your health is your greatest award, but to push things along a little we've sweetened the pot. For the first 100 challengers who sign up, Whole Foods Market will donate $20 to City Harvest, the world's first food rescue program.
WHAT ELSE?
What constitutes a workout? And who will see your posts? And can I post more than one workout a day? The answers: 1.) You tell us, and 2.) Everyone, 3.) No, and 4.) Look here for answers to these and other frequently asked questions!

Workout
yay for boyfriend motivation
had convinced myself that last night was going to be a day off, buttttt my boyfriend reminded me how much better I'd feel after and so I got my stuff together and headed over to the gym.
Workout revelation #1: Watching Jeopardy makes the time fly. Yes I know this might make me a HUGE loser, but the questions popping up really made the time go by quickly.
Workout
EBC Part 3 and Final Workout
Ok, I'm counting this as a second workout, because dancing all day and night really is not the same as a one hour spin class. Saturday night is the big Halloween dance at EBC, so I'll be dancing from, oh, 8pm till about 2 or 3 am. As an oompa loompa no less.
Workout
EBC Part 2
Tomorrow I will have balboa classes all day (I think at least four hours) plus some lunchtime shopping.
Workout
EBC Part 1
I'm leaving for another dance weekend this afternoon (this time focused on balboa instead of lindy hop). Tonight will entail multiple hours of dancin', struttin', and general groovin'.
Workout
Success
I have participated in every single Social Workout challenge.
2 I did not finish.
And as of this morning, with 30 minutes of at home yoga, I have finished 2.
10 Feats. 20 Workouts.
A very proud sandyliz.
So if you're reading this, and you don't know if you're going to finish - Don't worry. You will. If I did, you can.
Workout
Introspective Sweating
One hour workout. Row machine, full body weight work, fast walking on an incline, long, deep stretches. Walk out to the sound of Beverly Hills triumphantly, exhausted, happy. Or at least happier than I walked in.
Workout
The Big 2-0
I hopped on the trainer yesterday morning at 5:45 a.m. to bike for 45 minutes. Apparently, (and I should have known this) I woke up our super who lives right below us. He heard the bike whirring and asked my partner later in the day if we have a "machine." My partner informed me that biking in the living room "may not be a morning activity."
Oooops.
Workout
Workout 19 (more crazy Powerplate)
• 30 minutes Powerplate class
• 20 minutes treadmill
• 10 minutes rowing machine
• 10 minutes wave stepper
Ah Powerplate. Had an interesting class this morning with all sorts of different accessories. I am so wobbly and tired right now.
Workout
Workout 18
This was a pathetic workout, but better than nothing. Came home very late and did my arm workout with dumbbells while half asleep.

I had big plans for 7:30 am Yoga this morning...but 5 classses on Tue and 3 yesterday? A rest day was long over due. And what am I trying to do anyways? I already completed the challenge! So no working out...ok I MAY have busted 8 push-ups...just you know, to do it, but definitely does not constitute a workout! REST DAY!

Workout
gogogo and zzzzzz
A full day at work, a theatre board committee meeting, a quick gluten-free sushi dinner at Lili's 57 and a 4 mile walk back uptown.
Time to call it a day. It's been a long and productive one.
Workout
WL = LW - #18
I spent 4 hours today working with a spreadsheet/database of 10,185 records, attempting to reconcile them and make sense of it all for tomorrow.
Workout
time for a break
Practically every muscle in my body is sore right now. I went to Diesel today at Lafayette. Apparently Marc hurt his calves and couldn't come today. There was someone Kim subbing. I contemplated skipping the class, and even went towards the end of the room so I could leave easily if necessary. But I stayed the entire class. Very different than Marc's.
Workout
Closing in on the finish
Workout, again, was walking. From 74th and Central Park West, to the Trump Tower at 60th and CPW. From the Trump Tower to my office on 50th and 6th Avenue, and again from dinner at 63rd and Park Avenue back to work, where I sit right now, at 9:45 in the evening.
Workout
Walking, walking
30 minutes walking around the neighborhood. Booyah.
