Gotta work off that buffet now.

Did an hour of yoga before class. Held my poses for very long because I really needed to get my stretch back. Kettlebells really takes a lot of my flexibility away. Also the pull up training. Muay Thai class was great because it was me and all guys who can hold pads really good. I got an amazing workout and actually used bag work to rest. I reallly liked the combos the guys were giving me.

Meditating among treadmills and padwork.

I skipped my run before Yoga but thorougly enjoyed my yoga class and for once was not sweating buckets. Went back to the gym for and early Muay Thai class and then Kali. We had a guest instructor which was fun. Then I taught yoga to my friend...we couldn't find a quiet place in the gym so we had to do it in the middle of the cardio area behind the assisted pull up machine! So funny.

Knee pains. :(

Taught yoga in a flower shop in Crowne Heights. Kinda coool. Maybe it'll become a regular thing. Went to the gym for Kali and then Muay Thai. Did a different run. Tried to do intervals but my knee was bothering me. So I did a steep incline then and easy pace.

Culture Wars

Would Jesus Do Yoga? Hell No!

Yoga is "demonic." So says Mark Driscoll, pastor of megachurch Mars Hill in Louisville, Kentucky. Nevermind that Jesus had long hair and wore sandals, you would never have caught him on a yoga mat. "If you just sign up for a little yoga class, you're signing up for a little demon class," says Driscoll. "It's absolute paganism." Mad props to Janet Tu at the Seattle Times for picking up this gem

Silly, inflamatory evangelical rhetoric, right? Of course. But also interesting as a cultural signal. Yoga is on the march, and spreading much like a religious movement into storefronts across the land, backed by the Lululemon airforce and GAIAM shock troops. So, nutty as Driscol is, his may simply be the first shot in an escalating battle between conservative Christian types and liberal, secular yoga lovers. Or, more broadly, between the religous right and all kinds of secular fitness lovers. Where do loosely organized fitness "creeds" end and organized religions begin? Is an ecstatic physical experience inherently spiritual? Can you separate body and soul?

Sweet Jesus, these formal distinctions are awfully tricky.

The Beauty of Your Story

Once upon a time there was a beautiful young man who played the flute exquisitely. He lived in a small village of cow-herders. In this village all of the women were madly in love with him because of his good looks and his music. One day as he wandered, playing his flute, the women stopped milking their cows and followed his music deeply into the forest, where, seduced by the sound, they dreamed and longed for him.

They began to argue and fight, each claiming that she was the charismatic man’s true love. Suddenly they realized that he had vanished, and they panicked, churning through every lover’s emotion, from jealousy to hope, joy to anguish. Exhausted, they finally became peaceful, and it was then that the beautiful man reappeared. The man, whose name was Krishna, multiplied himself so that everywhere each milkmaid looked, behind the trees and in the streams, in the clouds and behind her eyelids, all that she could see was him. Dazed and sated with love, the milkmaids wandered out of the woods, and back to their homes, carrying the magic of the forest, the beauty of the music, and their passion for Krishna with them. They had internalized the story, and everything they needed was within.

Eat PLAY and Love :)

I missed my favorite yoga class because I had an appt. made it to the Eat Pray Love class at Lafayette. UHM weird. But kinda good. Slower and restorative. She reads passage from the book which I don't mind bc they're not weird or chanty. She also teaches a sequence and then has the class go through it a few times in silence, which is cool.

Some pull up training and bag work.

Fighting my own body weight.

I made a 6:15 am date at the gym. You know why it was so easy to wake up for it? Because I knew since I made a yoga date with someone, that I am off the hook on running! I taught and practiced a bit. 1 hr. Then did 15 min of whatever cardio on the elliptical. Instead of Muay Thai I did our new TRX class and damn that ish was HARD! But also fun. Not sure I will do it again but we shall see!

Throwing old guys to the mat, as usual.

I got to the gym later than I wanted so I didnt reach my 3 miles. 2.5 and then Yoga. Made my kettlebell soreness feel so much better. And uhm...where has everyone been in Amrit's Yoga class? Its been soo empty the last few weeks and today it was back to the mat to mat crowdedness! People fighting for space again!

Pull up training and more stretching.

Feeling sore and creaky I decided to go in the gym early for a Yoga class. Saw a Virgin Yoga class and thought it might be nice and restorative for me.
