Workout
earning my breakfast
The beauty of waking up before sunrise and working out very, very hard is this: enjoying a long, leisurely, homemade, 750+ (?) calorie breakfast and still being at my desk by 9. I will tell you about the breakfast first, then the workout.
BREAKFAST:
-I threw three slices of peppered bacon into the pan and let them fry. What a delicious smell.
Workout
the FURIOUS FIVE
Crazy morning, coach called workout the "Furious Five." But first we . . .
-warmed up
with jumprope, situps, pushups, hip extensions, plank pushups, back extensions, turkish get-ups and windmills, pullups, dips.
and then . . .
-deadlifted
warmup set
+ 6 sets, 3 reps each: #155, 175, 195, 215, 225, 235 (PR!)
Workout
margaritas, cleans, and ring dips
A ruck, in rugby, is a spontaneous contest over a ball on the ground; players from both sides try to drive or tackle opponents backwards in order to secure clean ball for their teammates. Rucking was the focus of last night's rugby practice. This meant a lot of hitting, and I think the theme in the coach's mind was "hit hard even when you're tired."

"fran" + food log
First, a question for any science-y types: I've read that when you exercise, your brain chemistry does all this amazing stuff. But what impact does a mentally intense workout have on your body? Like, if you do a super-competitive workout with a buddy, does your neuroendocrine system react more -- and would it lead to more building, or more burning?
get low // no zone
Oh Monday. I had such a fun weekend: being outside on the sunny part of Saturday, running around, dancing in short shorts. This morning, I was back to CrossFit, and in a little while, I'll be back to the workweek too.
More...First ride on a new bike
I've been out of action, workout-wise, since Tuesday, when I killed myself with squats after 3 months out of the weight room. My goal for this month - and the reason I signed up - is to do something active, preferably a full workout, every day beginning today.

ultrasound savasana
The most relaxing thing I've done in a while occurred, surprisingly, on the exam table of a diagnostic radiology office. I had to get an ultrasound (don't worry, I am fine) this morning, so I rushed over there from the gym, changed into the gown, etc. The ultrasound technician checked me out, then left me on the table with a gigantic paper towel over my torso while I waited for the doctor.
More...mentoring, deadlifting
Yesterday I bagged on a second CrossFit workout. I'd gone to the Upper East Side to meet with the kid I mentor--he's an awesome 16-year old boy from the Bronx--and our whole mentoring group (me and two teammates, plus three teenage kids) went to Central Park and played touch rugby for an hour and a half.
More...lift, dead
Okay, the two-a-days are killing me a little: I'm hungry all the time, and yesterday I hit the wall before team fitness and wished I'd taken a nap. But I'm eating well, working out hard, improving!, and getting almost-enough sleep. And despite soreness, I am excited, feeling challenged, managing the 5:25am wakeups. So the attitude is generally positive.
