weight lifting
Workout
snatch practice
Feat Count: 9 + 1/3
A really enjoyable morning at the gym -- nothing but warmup and snatching. I got 100#, which I'd struggled with last week. With 105#, I got weight overhead but didn't really stick it, so that's the new mark to hit.
Also, my hands are a mess!

Workout
thisclose to bodyweight bench
Feat count: 8 + 1/3
Today I made one attempt at bench pressing my body weight. I was very close, and the bodybuilders in the gym got very excited for me that I might get the weight up. So close! And yet, failure. It's okay. I was tantalizingly close at the end of a benching workout, so I'll get it up there soon enough.
Workout:
-Thorough Crossfit warmup, then
Workout
power cleans
Feat count: 8 + 1/3
No feats today. Not much of a workout, either. I skipped the CrossFit workout of the day because my fresh stitches were hurting through the warmup and the lift. But I did get the warmup in -- complete with 20 push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, back-extensions, overhead squats, lunges, inchworms, and some other stuff.
And then I power-cleaned, warming up to . . .

Yoga Sampler Class
I got absolutely nothing done at work today. It wasn't that I wasn't working (though I was getting a little frustrated), but rather that nothing else was working. Michelle saved me from banging my head against broken software by inviting me to the 8:15 yoga class at Park Slope Crunch. It was only 7:00, but that gave me as good an excuse as any to cut my losses and head to the gym.

NYPD Chief Pumps Iron, Dreams of Child's Pose
Ray Kelly, Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, is the only person in the history of the NYPD to go from cadet to commissioner. He's got smarts and drive, and he's got a serious fitness habit, people. At least four times a week, reports the Wall Street Journal, Commissioner Kelly, 67, hits the treadmill for 30 minutes, and then he pumps iron. What's he bench, you ask? Well, the Chief used to press 300 pounds, but now he says he only puts up 150. When he's not up for the treadmill, Kelly says, he uses "that machine the women use," meaning the Stairmaster. OK, give the guy a break, if the NYPD boss can't be macho, who can be? Also, it seems there's a softer side yearning to break free: "I'd like to do yoga," he says, "but I just don't have time." Oh, honey! Must get that man into savasana quick, and have deeply-centered yoga teacher administer Eucalyptus oil to his counter-terrorism-addled temples....

How did my morning workout go? Well, coach shook his head and said "it's okay, it's Monday morning and I have no idea what you did all weekend." Hmm.
The workout:

A rainy solstice, and first Sunday back to team lifting with the kids and trainer Chris. Kids don't show up for early session, so it's me and one other guy, and we get a great workout in.
The workout, more or less:
-some dumbbell work: 20 x squat thrust + pushup, curl, press with 25# dbs
