Russian Mole People Take Over Weight Room

Ed Note: When she's not interviewing DVD Divas, Kim is our YMCA Correspondent. "The Y is like my little brother," she says. "I love it, but also insist on the right to criticize it perpetually."

While my family may have fled their Eastern European shtetl some time in the early 1900s, I can still bond with my Slavic brethren anytime I want, just by going to the Park Slope YMCA weight room. Russian speakers don't abound at the Park Slope Y in general, just in the basement weight room. They seem to arrive via an underground tunnel directly from the Soviet Bloc.

worked out despite swollen and sore muscles

So, day 2 of really super, horrible muscle soreness I still dragged my little self to the gym. I was hoping to spin, but the class was full of all these new years resolution people. So, I went to WellSCULPT and it was surprisingly ok. I mean, I can barely go from sitting to standing but I can still do a sculpt class miraculously. Maybe I am a badass after all!

Blowing Off Steam On The Bike

A fight with a co-worker, who is a sneaky story snatcher, fueled a fast and furious 45 minute bike ride. Followed by 20 minutes of weights, including lots of triceps . But because I was still feeling guilty/angry about calling out my jerk co-worker in front of other people I opted for comfort food at the local diner instead of making the Brussles sprouts in my fridge. Quickie

A Friday deadline at work means it is harder for me to find time to workout, let alone blog, near the end of the week. But I woke up SUPER early on Thursday (4:45) and squeezed in 30 minutes of weights and stretching. I'm glad I did because it helped clear my writer's block so I met my deadline, and I felt like I had better work/life balance.

Happy Trails

Running through Rock Creek Park makes me feel a bit like an explorer (there are so many diverging trails that I could take a different route each day and still not see everything) and a bit like a superhero (able to leap over creek beds in a single bound!).
