Susan Sarandon Kicks Off A Daily Ping Pong Challenge

"I think ping pong is the most fun way to stay in shape. You really work up a sweat and it's fun. It's good for your mind as well as your body. Unlike the treadmill, which kills brain cells, this actually invigorates you. In the past I've had a trainer, and I like yoga, but now my resolution is to play [ping pong] like, every day."

Actress Susan Sarandon, who I'm sure actually likes ping pong, but who, as the owner of SPiN, also has a slight vested interest.

In Defense Of Underpants

It wasn't until very recently while overhearing some gym folk discuss undergarments that I realized not everyone wears undies at the gym. "Uhh, who wears panties to the gym?!" the woman said, and I suddenly felt like I was back in high school at that moment when I realized the jeans tide had turned some months back and my carpenter jeans were now advertising my terminal uncoolness. Maybe I was missing something awesome. Maybe I needed to try this new trend. So I did. This morning. 6 A.M. spin class. Commando. And here's why I plan never to do that again.

Of Civilization and Spin Bike Thieves

At Crunch Fitness, you have to sign up in advance for the classes you want to take. The good part about this policy is that you are guaranteed a spot. The bad part about this policy is that you are not guaranteed a spot.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Apparently, signing up for a spin class does NOT mean you'll be sweating up a storm in your favorite spin class, thanks to the awesome people who sneak into the classes, even when they're full!

It was a Sunday spin class, so I knew it would be popular. I got to Crunch 20 minutes early, on purpose, and put my name on the list. Then I stepped out to pick up a few last minute dinner items at Whole Foods around the corner. Not smart. Sunday, at Whole Foods? I should have known the line would be out the door.

Becoming one with the bike

I felt in the zone during spin today.  One of those days where I felt strong and like I was connecting with my bike.  It was a 45 min class then we did a 30 min core class.  I'm a little sore today from lifting and boxing yesterday, but nothing too bad.

Tuesday Spinning

Got on the saddle and did some "drills," nothing too exciting. I realized that spinning really helps me with running though. During the half marathon while going up the hills, my legs totally cooperated and I know it's because of time on the bike (I haven't done much hill running). The speed drills also help with sprinting...

Another class down, and two inches closer to a pull up...

I skipped my normal run today and went to spin class instead. Yay for being social at the gym! Downside: spin class is at 5:30, which means my gym is swarming with people. Gross. I am the girl who gyms at the buttcrack of dawn just so I can feel like I own the place. It makes the gym so much more relaxing, like a spa. This was not relaxing. But then again, spin is not really supposed to be.

Time to detox

After a weekend of partying, drinking and eating (in celebration of my bday!), I am in need of a detox.  Today 45 min of spin, 25 min of abs, and 15 min strength training (mostly arms).  It wasn't too brutal jumping back in to things, which was surprising since I haven't worked out since Thurs.

it's a sad state of affairs when the highlight of your day is the gym and a salad you ate for lunch

Today was rough.  Work was miserable, and the rest of the week will be no beter.  Pretty much the only 2 things that made it semi-tolerable were this awesome salad I made for lunch and my workout.  Not that those things shouldn't bring me joy, but there could have been something else a little pleasant about today.

16 Hour Gym Love-Fest - Working out others and myself

6 am - One hour Spinergy (therabands included, and taking the seat off the bike to GO LOW!!!

2:30 pm - One hour hard core TRX, BOSU, Core session with another trainer and myself. Sharing the LOVE with each other so that we can be better for our clients that we LOVE!

4:45 - Pilates and Core - 45 minutes of hard core ab work - getting crazy with the small playground ball...OUCH
