Ride The Zone
Workout
early spin and mid-day physique
Busy day, yesterday and not such a good night sleep last night. I was so tempted to stay in bed, but I some how got myself to 7:30 spin at Ride the Zone. Marion was sick and Steven filled in for her. He's a fairly new teacher who I recommend. He's challenging and will work hard to get inside your head. After getting into my work day, I was able to break for 11:30 Physique.

Accountability is good and Marion will bring it
Funny how one's training can unknowingly be evaluated while changing up a routine. While away over the long weekend, I wanted to keep moving so I laced up my running sneakers. I started on Thursday with a 5 mile run with my dad and finished on Sunday with an 8 mile run. I didn't process how easily I fell back into this because it felt so familar.
Celebrity News
Baldwin, Brooke, and Bon Jovi Spinning in the Hamptons
Friday of Labor Day weekend, and it's time to check in once again on the intense Hamptons spinning scene. Always interesting to see which celebs have that masochistic spinning gene. Well, my people report spotting Alec Baldwin, Aerin Lauder, Sean Avery, John Bon Jovi and SNL producer Marci Klein pumping away at Ride the Zone in East Hampton, while Tory Burch and Brooke Shields hang out at SoulCycle in Bridgehampton. Oh, to be in spin class with Baldwin! All that pent up aggression. And Bon Jovi? Amazing the man has still got it in him! No word yet on A-listers at upstart studio (B)East, but, despite all the drama, we've been hearing good things from the Amagansett crowd.

FOS 19: Family Time
I took my Dad to spin class on Sunday.
Yes.
My dad's a pretty sporty guy. He occasionally crews on some 30-40 ft boats, runs 5 or 6 times a week. Not fit but sporty. I came home raving about the Team Ride on Saturday, so he figured he'd try it out.
I give him massive props for not getting off the bike, but he did stop.

FOS 18: Teamwork
Out in the Hamptons for the weekend, thought I'd rock a little Ride the Zone action, so i signed up for Marion and Holly's team ride....killer as usual. Loved the team motivation action (and an excuse to yell loudly for almost no reason at all). Also had a little celebrity sighting in the back of the class....EXCITING! Gotta love the Hamps.

Defection Rocks Hamptons Spin Scene
While we're dishing on the beach scene, it's high time we noted the Big Hamptons Spin Scandal. Brief history: Until now, the Hamptons spin battlelines were drawn between SoulCycle, which started in the city, and Ride the Zone (formerly ZoneHampton), which was founded by hyper-energetic local girl, Marion Roaman. R.T.Z. loyalists suggest that the SoulCycle crowd is a bit more Ladies Who Lunch. At $30-plus for a 45 minute drop-in class, safe to say, neither studio is cheap. (For many riders, no doubt, preference was a function of location -- Bridgehampton vs. Southampton and Easthampton.) This comfortable Coke-Pepsi grudge match was disrupted this spring, however, when one of Marion's regular teachers, Romaine Gordon, defected to open a new studio on Main Street in Amagansett -- which she chose to call (B)East. ("Perfect name for it, muttered one Marion devotee.) According to rumor, the problem wasn't the new studio itself, but the fact that Romaine opened it without telling Marion, and with the latest and greatest RealRyder pivoting bikes -- heretofore a Ride the Zone exclusive in the Hamptons. ("Bad karma," says our source.) Traitorous or not, the (B)East studio seems to have hit the ground running, with a full schedule of classes (a relative bargain at $25 per). Among the two dozen or so teachers listed on the (B)East site are many popular teachers from the Equinox stable, includnig Lacey Stone, Nadia Zaki and Will Ashley. Buyer beware, however: A closer look at the class schedule reveals that the big names show up rarely, while the bulk of the teaching load is carried by non-celebs and Romaine herself.

OMG! I did a full split!
So I cannot believe..I have not done a split in 15 years. When I was training for marathons in the mid to late 90's, I wrote that kind of flexibility off ! In Physique, we were stretching and all of a sudden I went down all the way!! My first thought was the humidity made me do it.
Workout
Not normal and it never gets easier
During spin with Marion downstairs in EH(which she refers to as the Lab) she taught her advanced class and pushed us to recover on climbs or during speed work after some pretty intense moves that she tested out for the first time today.

Bonjovi sings while he spins
This morning I took Marion's 9am ride in EH. She had us climb for 40 minutes and recover on the sprint. After class we ran upstairs to take the rest of Stephen's 9:30. We jumped on our bikes, quick to catch the beat and take off. With a quick glance across the studio, I notice Bonjovi singing along to the tunes while he is riding.

FOS 11: The Ride
Went to Ride the Zone UES this morning. Was terrified of the high intensity of a spin class....didn't see how I could keep going about 20 min in, but honestly once i got off that bike I felt like i could've kept going for another hour! Everyone there was nothing but nice to me, and so supportive for my first time. Marion is a crazy person, she had me laughing and singing along the entire class.
