Feat Suggestion: Take a vacation from your fitness routine and explore

As someone who can’t take a vacation this year, my challenge is to bust out of normal city mode and explore. This month, do a minimum of  4 active acts of exploring, getting outside of your fitness routine and blog about them to inspire others for a respite from daily life…

Examples would be:

Joesgirl Feat Suggestion #1: Over, Around or Through

I have several of these feats cooking in my head right now, but this one is the most present one since Oliver's post last night, so this one is going into the pot first.

My Goal --> To Learn to Love Spinning

My SW win of a series of 30 (yup, 30!!) Ride The Zone classes is helping me achieve this goal.  I always wanted to be a spin junkie.  I had taken it maybe 2 or 3 times and eh.  Underwhelmed.

Titillating Screenshots and Tom Sawyer Approach to New Challenge Development

Hello Social Workout! I come to you this broiling hot June afternoon with Big News: Say hello to the FEATS OF SUMMER 2.0! Yes! The Million Minute Month is epic, but it needs a friend.

What's the deal? Consider this a "feat" casting call for our Next Challenge. It's clearly high time for something new, and we figured we'd let you have a hand in making it up, just as we did with the Emergency Holiday Challenge. What's a "feat," some newbies might ask? Well, a feat is any accomplishment of mind or body that you dream of achieving. Maybe it's doing a pull up, or taking ten hip hop dance classes, or spending at least two hours outside every day. It could be running a five minute mile, or giving up coffee, or losing ten pounds in one month, or logging your dreams. All of these things are do-able, but they often require a push, some peer pressure, and a deadline.

That's where we come in: Your job is simply to tell us what you most want to achieve this summer, alone or collectively, and we'll whip that into a Challenge using our New Challenge Technology (which is just now idling in the garage waiting for a final coat of paint.) No feat of strength too ambitious or wimpy, and no feat of mind too whimsical.

Why would you do this? Well, because we're bribing you. It's true: Take a moment to suggest a killer mind-body feat, and we'll put your name into the hat to win a $200 makeover courtesy of genius sporting goods retailer Jack Rabbit Sports. Also, if we chose your dream feat, it will live forever enshrined in our New System, AND you get to do it with all the support of all your fellow Social Workout challengers.

To recap: It's time for a new challenge, and we're all going to make it up together. You send us your feat ideas, and we'll add the best of yours to the best of ours and kick this thing off. One lucky feat suggester wins free Jack Rabbit Sports makeover. Everyone gets the satisfaction and amusement of a custom made challenge.

Got that? Fabulous. To submit your Feats of Summer 2.0 feat suggestions, simply create a post and tag it "FEATS."

Onward!

I did pull ups and dips again. Yup.

There was some debate today, as to whether doing pull ups before cardio was the best route for me to go. I think the more glycogen I have on hand the better. The other party offered the idea that warming up my muscles first would give me a better shot at accomplishing this one pull up.

Finis!

"Massive cleaning, a three mile run, and hourly sets of pushups put me at the finish line - however, it doesn't look I'm going to stop anytime soon!" — Annelies, today, 4:14 P.M.

I cannot stop thinking about SoCal bacon cheeseburgers...

I managed to leave work on time today and hit the gym early-ish. When I went yesterday, a trainer had two guys on working alternately on the pull up machine and another one nearby, so I couldn't get on for a bit, and I almost missed my spin class. Today, I got to there almost an hour beforehand, just in case.

Tape Well, Don't Sweat, and Win a Gold

This Sunday at a gallery on the Lower East Side, overworked and underpaid art handlers gathered for the first ever "Art Handling Olympics," reports the New York Times. Events included:

  • "A qualifying round in which teams were required to tape together an art box and wheel one of their members around a city block inside of it, and to stop midway to wolf down Chinese pork dumplings and throw back shots of whiskey."

A Belated Weekend Update

I went to Greenpoint Friday night for a friend's birthday. This soiree involved party hats, tacos, getting lost, a cowboy, a German, and getting home at 5AM. So I woke up late-ish on Saturday, but didn't have anything more than dehyration stopping me from heading back to the East River Promenade.

Feat-ure Creat-ure

Okay, so I'm a little late to get in on the Feralicious action - 1000 sit/chin/pull-ups in whooh... 10 days. Unlikely. Still, plenty of time to warm up for the next Challenge, so - for the next 10 days, I'm committing to giving my innards as much of a workout as my outterds (a real word, I swear.)

Here's to being:
