Day 19.5 - Workout 20

Worked out twice in one day, also unprecendented! After work, I did a lap around the resevoir before heading over to hear the Philharmonic in the park. Lots of wine, cheese, and bread for Bastille Day. Probably ate enough that both workouts today were necessary. Thursday, I will challenge myself a little more with the running.

Feats of Summer Day 21 - Warrior needs food badly...

Todays session with Mike was killer. The spirit was willing and it powered me through most of my workout but my body was fighting it every step of the way. I was annoyed the first section of my workout because while I understand that people have the same right to walk the gym as I do they would lolligag and walk in my workout path. If I am walking and swinging a 45lb.

Day 19 - in which we do that which has never been done before.

I usually wake up around 6:30 a.m. and lie there until the cat's headbutting becomes so ferocious I am forced to rise and feed her before she dines upon my poor, vulnerable toes. So, this morning, the sun came up at 6, I awoke and had a crazy idea. What if I...wait for it...got up. Like, right now. Got out of bed and biked to work and went to the gym BEFORE work? Oh my god, no...impossible.

Day 18 - the enemy below (knee to waist, to be specific)

Okay, I should have prefaced my very first entry with one caveat. There is exactly ONE reason I exercise and that reason is: Big German Thighs. These thighs, they are ornery. They are disagreeable. And large. They've been big from day one, from birth. The only difference between my current thighs and my thighs as an infant is that I no longer have fat rolls extending from chin to knee.

Feats of Summer Day 20 Workout 1 - A change in theme!

Last week I focused on the Hurricane workout. This week's theme is Crossfit's "Fight Gone Bad". It is a workout circuit similar to the Hurricane. But the exercises don't change. You do each exercise for one minute and count the reps for everything you do. At the end you add the reps and that is your point total. The point is to increase your total points with each workout.

Pools for NYers

I need to do the swim portion of the Feats of Summer Challenge and must come clean and admit that I am no swimmer. In fact, I don't think I've touched chlorinated water in a very long time and my bathing suits are used for snoozing and drinking than for exercise. I need to find a pool in NYC where I can do my laps and knock out one more feat.

Blake Lively is Hiring a Trainer

Gossip Girl star Blake Lively claims she doesn't work out but she's thinking about starting. "I know you feel better when you do [work out]," she says, "so I am planning on getting a trainer."  Girl clearly needs a final push, and we've got three words for her: Feats. of. Summer.  Any blog-oriented TV sitcom celeb should feel more comfortable getting her gym/trainer tips from anonymous web fitness junkies, no? Also, a month's supply of icelandic yogurt, might help her kick her pork burrito habit.

Day 17

Did ashtanga yoga class in the morning, which, apparently, is not the sort of yoga you want to do with a hangover. They say the most important thing in yoga is showing up and being present. I think the instructor probably wished I would have stayed home.

Day 16 - First there is a mountain

And then another, and another and your legs might actually start on fire. Did the ride from Brooklyn to Nyack - 7 am start out of Greenpoint, over 59th St bridge, through Central Park, over GWB, and right into Jersey. When we arrived, my friends said there was two ways to go: an easy way and a "hilly" way. How hilly? Oh, you know...it's do-able.
