You Should Be the Next Fila Girl

Last year, Fila scooped up daytime drama maven Susan Lucci for their Pilates clothing line. This year, they'd like to scoop up someone new. Someone named [insert your name here]. Fila is holding an open casting call tomorrow in NYC for women ages 25 to 50 (sorry, gentlemen). No models allowed. All you have to do is show up tomorrow at the Union Square Ballroom and show off your "great personality." Email RSVP@fila.com to reserve your spot. If you get picked, you get to star in a Fila ad campaign, you get paid (yay!) and you also get a whole new Fila wardrobe. (via Vital Juice)

Friday Night Yoga Soundscape Celebration

Join our very own Aarona Pichinson at YogaWorks Soho this Friday night for "Yoga Soundscape," a benefit celebration with DJ Derek Beres and live music with David "Duke Mushroom" Schommer (you may recall his delicious goji berry and coconut water smoothie) and Tom Rossi. Think breathing, grooving, and sweating it out yoga style with "musical nectars." All proceeds go to ACE (Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless). Details after the jump.

Social Workout at Yoga on the Great Lawn

Calling all Social Workouters in New York! As you may have heard by now, our friends at Flavorpill and Virayoga are producing the largest yoga class in history. 10,000 people on the Great Lawn in Central Park on June 22nd. If you're East of the Mississippi, drop whatever other plans you had for that Tuesday evening, and join us. It's going to be epic: Four hours of music, 20 live performances, and one unforgettable yoga class. Tickets are free, and come with a free yoga mat, but you must reserve your spot.) 

All this is WAY up our alley, of course, and we'll actually be helping out at the event. Our job is to corral the 100-plus local yoga studios who are coming out to adjust the masses, and we plan to take this very seriously. And this is why we need your help....

The Godfather Does Yoga

The invasion of urban outdoor yoga continues! First we had yoga in Bryant Park. Coming in June are yoga in Times Square and then Yoga on the Great Lawn (more on this later). But before all that, this Saturday, New Yorkers will get yoga on Mulberry Street in Little Italy. Huh? Forget about it! At high noon, on the gritty street where Coppola filmed The Godfather, our friends at I.AM.YOU Yoga are busting out their yoga mats and turntables. Call it Pasta Pranayama! Kirtan and Cannolis! There amid the fried dough, a sweaty, athletic vinyasa class, backed by Ibiza-style DJ. Priceless. Deets on I.AM.MULBERRY below....

Thanks to Pilates star Elizabeth Ordway, we've got the hookup for "Sensual Sunday," a sweet one-day retreat this weekend in NYC. Of the daylong women's-only event, Elizabeth says, "Rie [one of the retreat leaders] is my yoga and dance instructor.... She is who I turn to on a weekly basis to refuel and for inspiration! Hello my Social Workout friends — Pilates Style has asked me, Brooke Siler, to be a judge at the first ever Pilates World Games this Saturday. I am totally psyched that Pilates will finally have a day of officially being considered an unofficial sport. (Those of you that know and love Pilates will understand my joy). I'd love for you to come laugh, play or just gawk!! Since all the proceeds go to helping fight childhood obesity (through the organization "Pilates in The Schools"), and since the dream of Joe Pilates was to see his method being taught as school curriculum, this event feels doubly worthwhile. Mind Over Madness Yoga in Times Square

Warm up for the world's largest ever yoga class on the Great Lawn in Central Park on June 22nd with Yoga in Times Square on June 21st. Mind over Madness Yoga celebrates the summer solstice with yoga at what may be the least peaceful place on earth — the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets. Kick Off Summer With World's Largest Yoga Class in Central Park

Picture 10,000 people, simultaneously saluting the sun to kick off the summer of 2010. On June 22nd, the first day of summer, you can stop picturing and join 9,999 other folks in real life on the Great Lawn in Central Park for the world's largest yoga event. Hosted by our friends at Flavorpill, with the yoga class led by the inimitable Elena Brower, all shapes, size, and skill levels are welcome, and class is free. Registration opens May 20. And fret not if you're not from NYC: Flavorpill and Jet Blue are hooking up two people from each of five Jet Blue cities with free airfare and rooms at the Standard Hotel.
