The 2010 CrossFit Games Coming Soon

Back in July, Social Workout cheered for the CrossFit South Brooklyn Team in the 2009 CrossFit Games. Now our very own Body Electric (winner of the April Body of Work Challenge "Best Workout" Prize) is preparing for the CrossFit Games qualifiers. We're obviously cheering for her now, but we're gasping a little bit too. Check out what she's in for with a look at last year's competition:

challenge prep

This Saturday, I am competing in the "Hybrid Winter Challenge," a CrossFit-meets-Strongman competition.  Will certainly let you know how that goes, but tonight was prep.  Details about workout, eating, sleeping below.

why?

why on earth would you ever want a human being to be this sore? I mean, I work out and have for a long time, but this is a soreness of an entirely new level called, evil sore level. I think you like to take people to this level and that makes me want to kick you in the balls.

Recreate Fitness on Saturday Morning - My Shoulders were immobile on Sunday Morning!

On Saturday morning, Anne and I set off for Recreate Fitness (www.recreatefitness.com) for our morning workout.  I love how challenged I feel there - except on Saturday morning, we had to do 25 pull ups in as few sets as possible.  I thought to myself, "TWENTY FIVE?!

Church basement was double-booked this morning, so CrossFit moved outside.  Highlights:

-ripped my hands open doing pull-ups on a nasty scaffold

-got cheered in many languages by runners of the world

-got stared at by many, many tourists

cleans and jerks

Exhausted Friday morning, went to CrossFit and practiced cleans, jerks, clean and jerks, and more cleans.  Not an especially heavy day, got up to #115 and mostly did reps at 95.

Good news and bad news, social workout.  The good news: I'm going to train more seriously this winter, treat CrossFit like a sport, compete in the spring.  The bad news (not that bad . . .): my CrossFit coach wants me to log my food and exercise so he can see it.  So I've started blogging at gothamjenny.blogspot.com -- you can look at it if you want, but it's pretty bo-ring.

church basement

CrossFit Gotham has a temporary new home: the basement of a church in midtown.  I arrived this morning a few minutes late for class to find locked doors.  Some gentlemen waiting for the soup kitchen ushered me in a side door, assuming I was a volunteer.  I was then escorted by a person in a hairnet past a pb + j assembly line to a bank of elevators.

krushing the haters

I just got home (to New Haven) from NYC.  The train I ride home after rugby practices takes forever, but it stops a little closer to my house than the normal train.  And as it pulls into the station there's some awesome graffiti that says KRUSHIN THE HATERS EVERYDAY.  Talk about a good mantra for Zen commuting.
