Ride the Zone R.I.P.
Have been a Marion fan since the very beginning days above Calypso and watched her evolve into one of the best spin instructors in NYC and Easthampton. The closing of the Easthampton studio in two weeks will mark the end of an era. Made a lot of good friends there and burned through tens of thousands of calories. Marion, I wish you well, my friend! But am going to miss RTZ terribly.

Precious Conversation with Seven Year Old Boy I Tutor
boy: My mom told me she spins with you.
me: You're right. I see her at class a lot.
boy: Huh. OK, what are we doing today?
me: (I review the lesson plan and we begin.)
boy: (Stands up and starts "spinning" around): How long do you and mom do this for together?

Update-o-Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong
Hi Peeps,
We're almost there! My personal goal is to reach 2000 minutes....what's yours? Anyways, it's been a while since I've posted a blog so I thought I'd give you a wee update. So far I have lost 22lbs and it feels great. I am 9lbs away from my summer goal which is to lose 31lbs or 10% of my body weight. Technically I have about 3 weeks to make that happen, but I'm willing to go easy on myself if I miss it by a a pound or two.
I'm really loving exercising and have begun to crave it. I notice the difference that it makes in my life and mind set. I always liked to move my body, but I always felt I had to do it in private and now that is not the case, The sense of shame and embarrasment has waned enough that the other day I went back to my gym after being away for a year and got another membership....and I've been going!

i run to my own beat.
Over the past weeks I realized something: I don't actually LIKE to run with music. Sure, occasionally a good song can put a little more bounce in my step, but when it comes down to it I prefer to go sans ipod. At first, I couldn''t even quite make sense of this realization, since I have in the past sometimes used the lack of ipod to skip a workout (ok, that was a while ago) and the idea of purposely choosing to run without entertainment seemed crazy. Then, in thinking about it more, I realized that without music, I'm able to just let my mind roam and wander any which way. I get caught in loops of random thoughts or arguments, and go off on seemingly arbitrary tangents. I entertain myself.

Reborn
7 weeks ago I gave birth to my first child. A daugher. Jane.
Jane was born at home in our little London flat in a rented birthing pool. I was in labor for a total of 9 hours, the first 8 of which I spent dancing with my husband in our living room. I literally danced my way through the contractions.

Hello SW!
Oh how I have missed thee. The last few weeks have been full, busy, transformative and exciting.
First off, I reached my second personal goal! I wanted to be under 300 lbs and last week I weighed in at 297. I have lost a total of 20.4 lbs. I am 9lbs away from my next goal which is to lose 10% of my body weight by the end og August. So far soooo, good!
Also, last month I finally talked to my "Super Hero" (http://www.socialworkout.com/2010/06/01/where-do-you-find-your-inspiration).

a rant for the body concious
Thank you American Apparel for making the words "natural and healthy appearance" both frightening and offensive.
I've seen your ads. I've never used the words "natural and healthy" to describe a skin tight, low cut, lace dress. The words "how much" do come to mind though...

My "Beef" with Bittman.
I like Mark Bittman. I’ve enjoyed occasionally reading his columns in the New York Times, and I’ve definitely used or adapted a number of his recipes. So, a couple of months ago, when I went on a binge at Barnes & Noble, I picked up his latest book Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating. Yes!!! Food DOES Matter!!! And, we should eat CONSCIOUSLY!!! Win!!!
Well, I just finished reading it, and…uhm…I didn’t like it. Not at all. Not one bit.
