Exercise DVDs for Sick Day Couch-Fusion Relief

Contrary to what your mom tells you when you call to whine, you can still exercise when you're sick. The general rule of thumb is this: If it's above the neck, and you don't have a fever, rock out with your fitness loving self. If you have a fever, and well anything involving the rest of your body, chill out, take a nap, and watch 9,000 Law & Order episodes. Having said that, there are some general rules of sicksercise ettiquette, like skipping the gym. The gym is a confined space with bad circulation, and spreading disease is just so rude. Let's be civilized, shall we. So basically, sick time is exercise video time. If ever there was a day to get down with Denise Austin, it's when your nose is rocking a crimson hue.

Without further ado, I present a whole bunch of lovely, lowish impact workouts that will keep you from fusing with your couch this cold season: 

  • 10-Minute Solutions: Pilates for Beginners.  Strength training for the physically disinclined. This is really a beginner DVD, and the slow movements and explanations will be seriously appreciated by your cold-ravished body. Also a good choice if you're just starting out with Pilates and not sick.
  • Hemalayaa: Yoga for Everyone: This DVD isn't totally yoga; it's more stretchy yoga-esque movements, but they're easy and soothing on your body, and require less concentration and balance than your typical yoga DVD.
  • Ellen Barrett's Barefoot Cardio: Charity has a total girl-crush on Ellen Barrett, and rightly so. This DVD is totally gentle, but will still get your heart rate up enough to make your sick day not feel totally wasted.
  • Step-by-Step Belly Dance: It's hard to feel sexy while while covered in snot, but you can do it. I believe in you. So does Leilainia, so she's going to teach you to Belly Dance. This isn't a beginner DVD, the dances are intricate, but it's still not too jarring on your upper body and that's what matters in regard to the sniffles. Also, it's a lot of fun, so you might even forget you're feeling craptastic.

Or, you know, you could just go for a walk. Feel better!
